So, in tracking down the clunking in my TGP's front end I want to make sure I've checked EVERYTHING. The front strut inserts, I have Monroe sensatracks in it. They include a big washer.... where does that go? on top of the cart or in the tube on the bottom???

On top.

If you suspect noise from the struts, place your hand on them and have someone lightly jounce the car. I had a loose lower strut nut that caused some major clunking over speed bumps a few years back. I had torqued it properly but it still managed to back off some. I re-torqued it a bit tighter than before and haven't heard a noise from it since. If you don't have anyone else around you can probably still feel it by placing one hand on the strut and then rocking the car side to side by pushing on the top of the tire. That's how I diagnosed my issue back then. Might not be your issue, but it's quick/easy to check.

Ok, then mine are installed right. Figured I'd make sure it wasn't something dumb. I've been over it 100 times now. Going to rip both assemblies down to components again. hoping its the strut bearing plates....
