Hey everyone  My name is Chuck I am a retired Navy Man after 22 years I am back in collage with a bunch of kids working towards a Masters in Bio-Mechanical Engineering. My brother in law and I own a small Auto repair shop in a little town in Ga. We do 3800 SC swaps in kit cars and things like Fiero. Well with all the nifty parts and toys from places like ZZP I broke down and decided to buy a GTP to fix up myself. So I hunted one down that needed some help but still worth saving. I know the 1997 GTP has a OBD that is unique to the 97 only but the car was crying to be saved... I may only do minor upgrades like Pulleys and Better cam and exhaust. as long as the computer can HANG. The car to me is like a time capsule of my craftsmanship to be laughed at or admired I am doing this one for me. Now if I can just find the Distributer.

It's dark cherry meta---- wait....no. It IS purple!

...sorry, inside joke. Congrats on the purchase. I believe the only thing different about the '97 computer is the actual physical shape/design of the case, and subsequently, the harnesses that plug into it. It's still an OBDII, and operates/is tuned the same way the '98+ are, so there should be no limiting factor in that respect. Mod away. :D Other slight differences with '97 parts include the coolant reservoir bottle (and location), air intake box, MAF sensor, and the driver information center (DIC) in the dash. There's probably a few other things I'm forgetting, but that's all I can remember off the top of my head.

Were '97s also the only 2nd gens to get an indirect TPMS?

Yes. They had the bastard system that measures wheel spin and compares to the other wheels to detect a low tire, I believe. I finally got it working fairly well on my car, after replacing a wheel speed sensor harness, and I have no ABS light anymore.
