GrandPrix34
I was leaving to my g/f's house when the car just started to run like ass... i cant get about 4krpm's no matter how much i accelerate...the car sounds like a lawn mower and keeps wanting to shut off...when left at idle, the RPM's flutter on 1k, sounds like its missing from the exhaust too...smells like raw fuel (rotten eggs) Anyone have an idea of wat this might be? Redfox340
Transmission Neutral Switch. Tranny is in drive, but the ECM still thinks it's in Park or Neutral. The ECM regulate RPM's by cutting out fuel through the injectors. - Erik
GrandPrix34
but even at idle the car sounds like a lawnmower.i push the gas pedal, it accelerates then stays there for like 2 secs even when i take my foot off the gas then stumbles down to 1K jerking
Redfox340
So, it's running rich, and there's a misfire... check spark on the plugs? I can't vouch for the delayed response... either matter in the throttle body, a gasket / vacuum leak or something along the lines. Keep digging'; I know it sucks but you can find it! - Erik
Slade901
Clogged cat maybe?
GrandPrix34
how can i check the clogged cat? I took a broom stick and beat on it but not much rattle at all. Your very right on the running rich part cuz when i put my hand about 3 feet (or 2) i can feel the exhaust pouring out of my 2 mufflers like crazy (good free flow exhaust system i have ) Brought up something that maybe timing belt skipped a tooth or so...ill post a vid of wat i recorded but i need a good place to host it

joey b
I'd check spark to all cylinders.
Slade901
Two ways a cat becomes defective. The honeycomb inside the cat breaks into little pieces. The quick test is to hit the cat with something and you hear it rattle inside. OR The honeycomb inside the cat becomes clogged and there is no way for the exhaust to pass through the honeycomb of the cat. When you beat the cat with something, there is no rattling inside because the entire honeycomb is fused into one mass of block. However, there is a little space around the outer edge honeycomb which allows some of the exhaust gas to come out. The honeycomb inside the cat contains a special bits of metal where the exhaust gas pass through it then it combust the exhaust gas (burning it further) before it goes to the muffler and out. Test your car by removing the O2 sensor and start the car and see if the idle is better.
GrandPrix34
i started the car up this morning and in D there is something definately wrong! there is a 4 to 1 bang in the engine...something like ta ta ta BANG ta ta ta BANG ta ta ta BANG WTF? Bang sounds like REAL BAD detonation in the combustion chamber... Result of a bad camshaft(s)?? IF so, i bought a whole set from Vegeta so God i hope so... CPSMonteZ34
The fact that the car even starts with that condition would lead me to suspect bummed timing. I'm trying to think of any sensor that controls the operation of a running car, and if there isn't even one trouble code coming from your computer to give you an SES light, it seems like it's more mechanical...like, a bad plug, skipped tooth on the belt, broken spark wire, that sort of thing, rather than a bad sensor. That's my shot-in-the-dark.
GrandPrix34
your right about the timing...my dad things the same thing, says the old Blazer we had acted the same way when the chain skipped a tooth.. grr No sensor has gone off, no computer code thrown...nothing i did the whole paperclip *i used a wire so i wouldnt burn my fingers* thing and code 12...friend of my has a wal mart code reader and that still didnt bring up anything
CPSMonteZ34
...and the reason I suspected it to begin with is because I have never seen so many topics and posts from one person in regards to TIMING than I have since you came along. Hope it ends up alright...though a re-time isn't difficult, it's annoyingly time-consuming.
GrandPrix34
LOL HAHAHA 1st person to notice a trend! LOL
joey b
ok......um......do you have spark to all cylinders? And take note the ICM can go from bad to good in intervals so you have to test it when it is running crappy.
