low coolant light flashing?

on my 95' GP the low coolant light begins to flash if I let the car Idle at operating temp for about 5 min. This also happens when I'm in heave traffic. While driving under normal conditions the light is off, or if it was flashing it softly fades out after Ive maintained a steady speed. IIRC, the light is supposed to come on and be steady if there is low coolant, and not flash like it does. I have good coolant filled to the proper level. This is strange.

If your coolant level sensor is original remove it and clean the crud off the metal electrode.

It is original, Next time I have a minute when the engine is cold I'll check it.

the MC was doing this last year.... only happened when it got hot out and the coolant was also up to temp. haven't bothered to deal with it since it hasn't been driven much since then.

UPDATE:

I removed the coolant sensor and found the probe covered in muck. Unfortunately, the neck with the o-rings broke off the sensor in the radiator. I was able to fish it out.

Went out to the self pull and found a nice clean replacement sensor. After I got it in and topped of the DEX-COOL, I have not had anymore trouble.

Good deal.

Those sensors are not easy to remove with the radiator in the car.

My light was on solid, ohmed out the sensor with a new one and it was bad. Replaced it, and a week later the light flickers when first starting the car when its cool and below 70 degrees outside. Soon as I start driving it goes off. Full of coolant too.
