the tranny is whining pretty loudly at times it shutters in 1st and wont shift past 2nd. then other times its great! some say the filter could be clogged. I know its running about a year old filter and fluid. Im just looking for opinions on what to do with it or possible solutions

if it runs pretty good some of the time... lets get a bit more info. when does it act the worst? when cold, when hot, after long drives, etc?

what type of fluid or filter did you use? I am now using vavoline maxlife in the gallon jugs which is designed to meet dexron VI specifications, (though their viscosity is slightly higher, iirc) wihtout the price tag of being licensed.

Jiffy lube serviced it with dexron 6. it does its best when its cold.. I can drive it about a mile then it fucks up.. but today I drove about a mile and it messed let it sit for about 30 minutes and it drove perfect all the way back to the house.

Jiffy lube? did they really change the filter or do a crappy powerflush only?

Does it have a stock transmission cooler? some 3800 cars 91-93 had it. if not, go to a j/y and get one from anything 91-93 that has a 3.4 or 3.8, as it is a direct bolt on.

about a year after.. I personally changed the filter and fluid and put some trans-x in it.. Does great so far!

My 96 Regal will whine and have mushy shifts if I use Dex6.

Some transmissions just need to stay with Dex3.
