pshojo
I know fiero people take wbody trans and put them into their Fiero's. So question is, Can we go the other way. 5 spd Fiero into Wbody? What all would transfer?
Venom
The 284/282 from a w body is a huge PITA to swap, most actually swap the 5 speeds from the beretta/cavalier. I looked into doing it with my fiero before I sold my 284. So in the end its not worth it.
chevelle3504speed
I believe the Fiero has different shift cable brackets from any of the FWD cars. If you got around that, there's nothing different. Housing is the same. Axles are different. Not sure about gear ratios.
55trucker
I know fiero people take wbody trans and put them into their Fiero's. So question is, Can we go the other way. 5 spd Fiero into Wbody? What all would transfer? The Fiero trans makes use of an external clutch lever arm whereas all of the FWD housings use an internal clutch lever arm which makes the casing more compact. When doing a trans swap into the Fiero the trans used is the early 90's V6 Cavalier getrag 282 trans. A special clutch slave bracket is used to allow the original slave to mount to the Cavalier case. It would really not serve you to go the other way, the biggest drawback is the Fiero casing as they are in short supply and the FWD trans is just a better trans. Here's a pic of the powertrain we recently reinstalled into my son's Fiero. Edited June 11, 2013 by 55trucker

What all would transfer? We "Fiero People" like to steal the engines & automatics from Wbodies, esp the L67/4T65, but I haven't heard of anyone ever trying to put a manual trans from a W into a Fiero other than a few extremely painful attempts at the 284. I don't think anyone has ever pulled it off and nowadays they're so rare and irrepairable it would be a very bad choice. The Wbodies have otherwise been an engineering treasure trove for the world of Fieros and have helped keep them alive and evolving for the last three decades. It's the go-to platform because of its powertrain similarity and junkyard ubiquity.
