Options that do exist would be find any car in the yard that has the same code for a one spring replacement. If you are looking to change your spring rate, you could get a matched set of springs from a donor that is only slightly up the scale, for example the FUY springs. http://www.w-body.com/oldsite/spring-codes.html Keep in mind the following: matched springs are importants, with little exception all W's had matched front springs, except a few 3.4 dohc cars i have looked into. 2001goldGTP Posted May 21, 2013 Author Report Posted May 21, 2013 thanks, so it seems like i have a pretty low spring rate in the front? edit Oh so i get it, the front and rear springs are matched Quote
2001goldGTP Posted May 24, 2013 Author Report Posted May 24, 2013 Can we get new spring to match or are we left with the generic ones from moog raybestos and ac delco? Quote
Crazy K Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 (edited) I was actually speaking left and right front springs are matched. I made a reference chart for cars that i have handled, own(ed), parted, worked on: KPB KPA FYB FYA FXX 93 int L 95 CS LQ1 L 94 Vrt L CJK 93 int R 95 CS LQ1 R 94 Vrt R BPY Spare L FXT FXS FWW FUZ YOUR CAR L,R FUY 91 Vrt L,R 96 GP L FUX My 91 international sedan L,R 93 CS Vrt L,R 95 CS SL L,R 96 GP R FUW FUU FUT ?WN 93 Cs zack L,R ?WP 92 Lum L,R 94 CS S L,R 1991 Vert 3.1 FE3 0DN spring, computer select rear 6UY Frnt Left spring 7UY Frnt Right spring 1991 CS International 3.1 FE3 0HH spring, computer select rear 6UX Frnt Left spring 7UX Frnt Right spring 1993 CS International 3.1 FE3 0DM spring, computer select rear 6XX Frnt Left spring 7JK Frnt Right spring 1993 Cs sedan (Zacks dead car) 3.1 FE1 0HH spring, computer select rear 6WN Frnt Left spring 7WN Frnt Right spring 1993 CS Vert 3.1 FE3 0DN spring, computer select rear 6UX Frnt Left spring 7UX Frnt Right spring 1992 Lumina, 3.1, FE1 0DM spring, computer select rear 6WP Frnt Left spring 7WP Frnt Right spring 1994 CS S Sedan, 3100, FE1 0DK spring, computer select rear (17984228) <--- swapped to OHH 6WP Frnt Left spring 7WP Frnt Right spring 1995 CS SL Sedan, 3100(lq1 swap), FE1 0HH spring, computer select rear 6UX Frnt Left spring 7UX Frnt Right spring 1996 GP coupe, 3100 swapped to L67, FE3 ODH spring, computer select rear 6UY Frnt Left spring 7UX Frnt Right spring 1995 CS SL sedan, LQ1, FE3 0HH spring, computer select rear 6XX Frnt Left spring 7JK Frnt Right spring 1994 Vert, LQ1, FE3 0DN spring, computer select rear 6XX Frnt Left spring 7JK Frnt Right spring Spare struts w/ bigger brakes BPY Frnt Left spring BPY or FXT right Rear Leaf Spring Codes (All first-gen exc. 95-99 Monte Carlo/Lumina) GM Part No. Spring Load Rating 17988723 RHU Highest(+) 17984859 RFL 17984858 RFK 17984857 RFJ 17984856 RFH 17984855 RFF 17984232 RHN 17984231 RDN 91 Vrt 93 Vrt 94 Vrt 17984230 RDM 93 int 92 Lum 17988720 RHH 91 int 93 CsZ 95 CSSL 95 CSLQ1 YOUR CAR 17984228 RDK 94 CS S 17984227 RDJ 17984226 RDH 96 GP 17984225 RDF 17984224 RDD Lowest(-) If you were to notice, only THREE of the cars listed have front springs that are not on the chart, but several FE1 cars use springs listed as options in the FE3 range. There is also a trend towrads stronger springs as the years pass.... I have not seen or documented a 95+ car that has springs not on the chart. I have always gone with used, since I can find nice clean used ones when needed... Follow the rule of having them matched side by side. If you use an aftermarket spring of unknown rate, but have a second spring as part of the set, you need to use both of them. Edited May 24, 2013 by Crazy K Quote
Crazy K Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 p.s. you did say you need shocks, do you actually need springs? if you have good springs, you should have some that are ideal for the car you already drive. Firmer springs could make it ride like a truck........ where as a few of my cars could stand to get springs at about the same rate as your cars has because they are too soft.... If you need advice on shocks... I have plenty, just ask. Quote
2001goldGTP Posted May 31, 2013 Author Report Posted May 31, 2013 I have front shocks i havent put them in yet. I have always had monroe reflexes in the car. My rear shocks are long dead and i need to buy some. The only suspension in the back really is the moog spring helpers. So the rear end doesnt sag but it also doesnt move, handles well rides like well like ot has no suspension travel in the rear, while the front can make you sea sick, its really a rough ride. The reason im worried about the front springs is i know the shocks have been blown for a long long time. Im waiting on the last j-tool to show yup and then i can change the front shocks. edit and since anything is better than what my current set up is, i was looking for a little more aggresive spring for fun in the corners.
