95LQ1VERT
Ive been smelling burning oil on my car for the past day and today *after driving* I opened the hood and seen smoke coming from the area by the EGR. I then found the breather tube that runs down to the rear cam cover is hanging off the little nipple, and then I removed were it hooks up to the intake tube and I find it wet with oil... Is there a chance my PCV is clogged? or is this a whole new problem?
94 olds vert
When my rubber breather tube hose went bad on my Cutty I had white smoke and a burning smell as well. I didn't get any oil leakage nor was the PVC line clogged with oil. The hose that runs to the rear cam cover isn't connected to the PVC one directly. 95LQ1VERT
Im guessing its doing this because the hose is loose. Do you have a Part #?
94 olds vert
I also had a weird idle issue too probably because of the vacuum leak. No I don't have a part number. I had an extra vacuum hose I picked up from the junkyard years ago. It's not the easiest thing in the word to replace, but it is do able without removing too much crap. 95LQ1VERT
Hmmm makes me think if this is the reason for a lot of issues im still having. I will probably get some hose clamps and slap them on.. Its just loose fitting.
94 olds vert
Yeah that will fix it. I had to replace mine becuase the hose started to melt lol. I have pictures if you like.
95LQ1VERT
I put some hose clamps on the tube and then went to the spray wash and "tried" to wash the oil off the engine but its still smoking, hopefully its just the left over oil on it. 95LQ1VERT
WTF I am so done with this thing. Still have oil burning from the back of the engine, CL your time has come.
Crazy K
oil drive failure?
94 olds vert
I don't think my CS had a burning smell when the Odrive went. If its leaking a lot then it might be possible.
95LQ1VERT
I did the double gasket when I had the heads off, unless your meaning the whole unit itself? I need to just find some time and get the plenum off and check shit out on it.
94 olds vert
If you did the double gasket on the O drive it shouldn't be leaking. I also coated mine with RTV. Not sure where oil leaks at the rear of the engine. Unless its the rear main seal.
95LQ1VERT
It has to be something above the rear exhaust manifold because whenever you drive it , it burns off into smoke and it rises up under/ around the EGR valve. Im thinking either the Cam carrier gasket, cam carrier cover gasket, or breather tubes...
94 olds vert
My breather tube did have a bad smell and white smoke to it. It could be one of the cam gaskets.
rich_e777
If you have black valve covers there is an excellent chance they have cracks around the bolts that will leak oil. Just grab some all metal ones off a matching engine at a junkyard and remember the shields inside them. Also check the rubber grommets around the bolts as well as they can fail and leak oil. RTV on the oil pump shaft doesn't work nearly as good as permatex #2 because the #2 doesn't completely harden like the rtv will. Just lift it out enough to get an applicator in there and rotate the shaft around all the way while you squeeze it in. It honestly sounds like the oil pump shaft leaking again or bad valve cover seal.
