My 1990 Chevy Lumina owners manual says to use DEXRON II in the transmission. Would it be alright to use DEXRON VI in it ?

Like I said in your other thread.... If you can afford it, cause it miles ahead on dex3....

Sent from my iPhone in some random spot of Texas.

That is what I have had in my car for years now. Good stuff IMO!

Just make sure you clean the magnet off in the drain pan and seat the new filter on and you should be good to go.

You can replace the seal that the filter sits in if you like, mine was OEM and a PAIN to remove.

You've had good luck with the super tech? So you did a fluid/filter change on your car and it seems to be working fine? I've herd if you change the fluid your at risk of damaging the transmission is that true ? Because mine is shifting hard into overdrive, checked the fluid level and it seems to be fine, it looks a little dark tho!

I've also had good luck with the Supertech.

So what exactly are you asking us if you don't actually plan on changing the fluid?

If you change it and the transmission fails, it was going to fail anyways. But you should be fine and see nothing but improvements.

To elaborate on what others have said, changing the fluid itself can't damage the transmission. If the trans fails after a fluid change, there was a problem to begin with. The fluid change just brought it out/exacerbated the situation by knocking loose grime, varnish, etc, although that's FAR more likely to happen with an actual flush, not so much with just a pan drop/filter replacement.

Ok thank you RareGMFan! Yeah I'm planning on doing a filter and fluid change here soon. The fluid thats in the transmission now looks a little dark. Thanks again for the post really appreciate it!
