SSAC no longer makes slp style headers

It has been confirmed on a few other forums that SSAC no longer makes the same type of headers they used to make for series II 3800's. They used to make slp/speed daddy headers, but now they're selling pacesetter/obx style headers.

They still have a 3" downpipe, however the crossover won't fit properly without some modification.

for reference, this is what the speed daddy style looks like:

and these are what you will receive if you order from them:

Once I get my crossover lined up, I will make sure everything else fits properly and will update this post. At this point they still seem like the best bang for the buck because of the 3" DP unless you can find speed daddy headers anywhere for under $300, but speed daddy headers are currently selling for around $400 on ebay.

This is intended as a heads up for anyone who is considering buying headers from them.

correct me if i'm wrong, but it looks like the only significant difference is the location of the Y-pipe? from what i can see, the pacesetter design LOOKS better to me, but i know nothing of how well they work on 3800s.

Anywhere clamps go and the flex section but I've heard most of this can be remedied with better clamps, but they still like to leak a bit

I haven't finished installing them yet since the crossover is hitting the transmission so I can't put it in. That's the biggest issue I've noticed so far. You can see what I'm talking about at the end of this post of my build thread.

The biggest difference otherwise is that these have a y-pipe. The slp/speed daddy's have a place for the crossover to connect on the rear header just like the stock manifolds, and just have a single downpipe instead of the two on the pacesetter style. If the pacesetter style actually functioned/fit correctly there would be no issues at all, and I might even be happier with them due to the larger primaries, however they don't fit as-is.

I've heard that this style also tends to leak at the y-pipe over time as the clamps loosen up.

hmm.... sounds like a good excuse to attempt to make a true dual exhaust setup out of it to see how it sounds, since the Y-pipe could simply be left out and run individual pipes from there.

Yep, this is something that crossed my mind and even thought about doing down the road. It would only be a matter of acquiring two of the right size downpipes and figuring out how/where you'd plumb the pipes back.

It looks like Speed Daddy doesn't even make headers for these cars anymore even. Their website has said they're sold out for at least 2 months now.

I'm almost certain this is why SSAC can't make their headers anymore. My thought is that they've been getting them off of speed daddy for cheap and then reselling them on their site, but can't get them anymore.

Damn. I guess I'm glad I got mine when I did then. I guess it makes sense, the newest one of these cars is ten years old now. Unless you count third gens, then the newest one is still what, 5 years old? Not many people still modding these left.

That is a shame. the SD's were actually pretty alright for as little as they cost. They were no SLPs but hell for the ~$1200 in savings... I never used the SSAC but the looked about the same style as the SLP/SD headers

If anyone buys the Pacesetter style ones now It may behoove you to weld the stupid rear Y pipe thing to the rear header so it does not fall off. That was hands down the biggest issue I've had with pacesetters. install it all how you want it get it lined up then mark the rear header in relation to the y pipe thing, pull it off and get it welded up just to save yourself the headache of the headers falling apart later.

Yes, its been less than a month and my headers have all but fallen apart already, I just fixed them before going to NY, When I get the GP back, I think I am going to pull the car into my storage unit and get the exhaust pulled off and have it welded up

Looks like the newer ssac headers will need to be cut up and welded at the crossover connections in order to fit properly.

It seems all might not be lost however. I received an e-mail today from speed daddy. They told me that their headers have been on back order for a while, and it looks like they might be in stock in 2-3 weeks.

This was me contacting them at their website however, and the headers they have on their site only have a 2.5" downpipe. I'm not sure yet if this means SSAC will also have them or not, but either way it's good news for anyone who didn't waste their money like me already.
