96_GP.SE Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 alright guys. So I have a transmission question. I believe my 1996 grand prix 3.1 auto has the 4t60e tranny. Would anyone happen to know if that transmission will fit into a 2000 Malibu with the 3.1 v6? Quote
RobertISaar Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 no. that malibu would have a 4T40 or 4T45, entirely different transmission. Quote
96_GP.SE Posted March 21, 2013 Author Report Posted March 21, 2013 Alright thanks. I read somewhere the 4t60e would work but I wanted to make sure before I got into that project. Quote
96_GP.SE Posted March 21, 2013 Author Report Posted March 21, 2013 I remember reading that the 4t40 or 4t45 came with the 2.4 and the 4t60e came with the 3.1 in 1997 Quote
RobertISaar Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 in 97, the 4T60E was used with the 3100 N-bodies, trans will have a tag code of 7BSW. 98 had them as well, 8BSW. 99 and up went with the 4T4x Quote
96_GP.SE Posted March 21, 2013 Author Report Posted March 21, 2013 Would the 4t60e bolt up to the 3100 in a 2000 Malibu? Or is there a difference with the 3100 in the 00 Malibu from the 3100 in the 96 grand prix Quote
96_GP.SE Posted March 21, 2013 Author Report Posted March 21, 2013 The reason I ask is because I can get a great deal on a 2000 Malibu with the 3100. But the trans is starting to slip. I have a 96 grand prix with the 3100 and the motor and trans is good in it. Quote
RobertISaar Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 the trans will bolt to the engine, no problem, it's getting the W-body 4T60E mounted into the N-body subframe and that the PCM wouldn't like it at all. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 Where are you located? I have a good 4t-60e from a 1994 wbody. Sent from my iPhone in some random spot of Texas. Quote
rich17 Posted March 22, 2013 Report Posted March 22, 2013 Wouldnt a 96 trans have a vacuum modulator and the Malibu wouldnt? Quote
