suggestions on rebuilding my stock L36...new to the forum

Hello fam! I'm new here. I have a 2000 Buick Regal LS, all stock. It has about 180k on the engine and tranny. I'm looking to rebuild both but add a little HP on the engine with no supercharger or juice....so I'm looking for suggestions on what to do as I have a mechanic who can do whatever work I want but I need to know what are the best parts to get and exactly what to have him do? I'm thinking to stay basic and switch out the internals, upgrade the exhaust....let me know and I appreciate any/all responses in advance.

Well if you are going to be rebuilding the engine go with metal gaskets vs the plastic ones. They hold up better and LIM leaks are a common occurance.Assuming the car is current on tune-ups and in good repair- Larger downpipe, high flow cat. converter, performance mufflers/glass packs+ a true CAI system that gets its air from outside the engine bay is a start. Heres a link that has some stuff for N/A 3800 V6shttp://www.wot-tech.com/shop/:thumbsup:

the most popular L36 mods are from ZZP. Get their HV3 insert and ER ratio rockers. Then get a 2.5" downpipe. Dont worry about the catback, unless you want to change sound.

There are NA cams available, but they arent too popular just because most people go turbo or SC. Headers are overkill for a L36, but a Powerlog isnt a bad idea.

As far as gaskets and such, get the metal frame LIM gaskets, aluminum coolant elbows, a improved plastic upper intake, and Felpro headgaskets.

What Andrew said. Go check out ZZPerformance's site, or wbodystore.com. I've never heard of anyone using WOT Tech's 3800 stuff....I wouldn't.

Why not? they are just selling springs, injectors and cams that you can buy anywhere else....

Moreover Ben has been selling stuff to this group for over 10 years and gives great customer service...

Any suggestions on replacement of the internals; rods/pistons/camshaft etc?

there is no reason to upgrade the crank/rods/pistons if you arent adding boost or NOS.

If you want a cam, make sure to read what upgrades are recommended. Always replace your lifters with a new cam. A new timing chain and tensioner wouldnt be a bad idea either since you have higher miles. Stage 1 cams from ZZP or wbodystore are good safe bets that dont require supporting upgrades.

Also be aware that if you go with a cam, dont get the ER ratio rockers. Do one or the other.
