95 LQ1 in a Cutlass Supreme Vert losing coolant.

Hey I have 95 Cutlass Supreme Vert. with the LQ1 with almost 142k on it. I just had the intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, thermostat, waterpump, and power steering pump replaced on it. It loosing coolant slowly. The hoses have pressure while its hot. But when its cold they dont have any pressure. I hoping its not a head gasket/cracked head. It never been hot. I know that I can smell the coolant when the engine is warm. No puddles, no fluids mixing. low levels going up. Just coolant going down slowly. Any ideas or possible hiding spots on this damn thing? Heater works also and floor boards are dry. Thanks for any advice.

When the head gasket popped on my '93 3.4, there was no question--immediate overheating. About 150K miles.

Both head gaskets were bad, but the rear bank was the one with coolant in the cylinder. Front bank was still sealing, even though the gasket was in the process of failing. Both heads had a low spot at the point where the gasket failed, so the heads had to be planed flat again. The gaskets failed in exactly the same place; I think there's a weak spot in the head that over time releases pressure on the gasket, causing the failure.

Most common "hiding place" I've found is when the lower intake gasket fails...you'll usually see coolant puddling on top of the valley, around the distributor plug.

smell your exhaust while its running, if it smells "sweet", then your head gasket is out. also check your oil cap and dipstick, if it has a chocolate milk sludge to it and the oil level has raised then its been leaking internally into the oil.

The exhuast isnt sweet.. Smells and is potent like normal exhuast. I did removed the oil cap and look at it.. its pretty clean no sludge or build up.

my second guess is that when you had all the work done they missed the little o ring that goes under the throttle body so coolant can pass through. Can you pin point where the smell is coming from?
