eblanchette
Hi! I own a 1997 Z34 Monte Carlo, and lately I plugged in my OBD2 reader in it. I have noticed the "timing advance" field is always between -25 and -30, so I looked around and could not find wether or not this is normal. The car has 83000 km's and the Timing belt has never been changed(it also gets awful gas mileage in quebec's cold weather). So if anybody could let me know, I would appreciate it! thanks! RobertISaar
sounds normal. IIRC, the 97s(and possibly 96s?) reported spark advance in negative values to indicate BTDC, between 25 and 30 sounds about right for most idling and light load conditions for a LQ1. and 83,000 kilometers is getting somewhat close to the recommended change interval of 60,000 miles(~95,000 kilometers), but i think i would change it based on age alone at this point. Thank you for the answer! I will change the belt as soon as possible, it is getting old.
