Last Monday I bought this car, 1991 Chevy lumina with the 3.1 mpfi, I had to put in a new battery, new temp sender for the gauge, and I replaced the 2 dogbone engine mounts... Drove the car all the way up until Thursday with no real issues except that if you got on the gas harder than say 1/2 throttle, the rpms would just fall off until you let off the gas, then they would return to normal. (I found this out when I went to pass someone, and I got right beside them.................... and that was it...).

That was on the way to work at about 6 Thursday morning...

At about 12 I drove home for lunch... (no problem)

At 1, the car would not crank............ fuel pump was not coming on...

When I got off at 6, came home and the car cranked like nothing had ever happend...

Friday morning no problem

left at lunch time, and guess what............ no crank.........

but this time I had fuel pump coming on, and spark.

Eventually the car cranked and my girlfriend drove it to the Shop where I work, I figured it was the fuel pump giving out and I just happened to have a pump from a 92 Camaro 3.1 fuel pump just lying around so i dropped the tank and swapped them out....

Car would NOT crank for nothing, It had good spark and good fuel pressure...

I unhooked one of the injectors and put a noid light on it...

It lit up and the car fired up on 5 cylinders the light showed a good pulse so i plugged the injector back up and let the car run for about 20 minutes or so. I cut it off and let it sit for a little bit, and tried to crank it. It cranked right up as if nothing had been wrong... so I decided to drive it the 3.5 miles back to my house....

I had to push it a 1/2 mile back to my job...

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Ok, well more ideas needed please...

Its come down just throwing random parts at it... And I hate just throwing parts at it...

So far this is what I've done

•New fuel pump

•New fuel filter

•New ignition control module

•New MAP sensor

•New crank sensor

•3 different ECMS (all with same symptoms)

•New coolant temp sensor

•Have checked coils....

What am I missing__________________

Anybody?

have you checked your cables for bad connection? I had an issue that sounds alot like yours when my negative side wasnt making good contact with the battery. Replaced the terminal bolt(comes in a pack of two for around $4 at AZ universal size) and it was fine. I`d also look at corrosion at your alternator, starter and battery grounds if anything a wire brushing wouldnt hurt. When it would not crank did you still have power for lights, radio, etc.?
