Rear speakers cutting in and out.

You might possibly have a *Monsoon* system installed that made use of separate amps to drive the various speakers.

Is there a Monsoon logo on the face of the head unit? see the head unit pic in this link.

Rear speakers may have an amp running to them if you have the "upper level" system. The amp is a 3x5 grey box mounted behind the

knee bolster to the right of the steering column. Easiest way to check is look at your rear speakers thru the trunk. Look for 2 connectors

to each speaker.

Cutlass Supremes were never equipped with a Monsoon system from the factory.

OP: Do you have the amplifier mentioned? If you do, when you say your rear speakers are cutting out, is it the entire frequency bandpass or is it just the low frequencies?

I won't get a chance to check it until Sat or Sun. When I say cutting out, it is totally silent like it is getting no signal.

Okay. I'm not sure on how the amplifier is wired from that year. If anyone else knows or has a diagram, that would be helpful in tracking down the culprit. If the amplifier powers both coils in the rear speakers, it is likely at fault. If it merely powers the bass coils and the head unit powers the midrange and high frequencies (like in the older Cutlass Supremes), the fault lies elsewhere.

Someone here will be able to assist further, I am sure. :)
