crunkGP96
My 95 gtp really has me confused. It had an issue when it got hot it would not start. I replaced the ICM along with the coil pack and that issue went away. Then it would drive fine but when I drove it for about an hour and a half, turned it off and then started it again, it would start bogging and then wouldn't start until the car cooled down. Replaced the upper intake gasket after the previous owner had a shifty job done on them that stripped like 4 of the bolts. Replaced the gasket thinking it was the vacuum leak it had that was causing the bog and shut off. Well I still have the bogging issue and it only happens when the car is driven for a few hours. The car runs forever if it sits idling. I thought it was maybe the fuel pump but it works fine according to my mechanic. He checked it out again and I'm hearing he found the problem and it has something to do with the catalytic converter? Never had a cat go bad on any of my cars so I don't know if that's possible to cause the issues I'm having. Suggestions? Thanks Edited December 30, 2012 by crunkGP96

crunkGP96
Plugged converter can cause poor power. Wouldn't matter if hot or cold. hmm.. It only seems to start bogging out when its been driven for a few hours, shut off and then started again though. I edited my post to include a few more things since last night I was on my phone and it wouldn't let me edit it for some reason. The car can be parked and idling for hours and nothing happens when I turn it off and back on. I'm confused here:confused:

What does your "mechanic" say in regard to scan tool readings? In particular, short- and long-term fuel trim...throttle position...EGR...coolant temperature? For that matter, what about trouble codes? I'd be very suspicious of your "mechanic".
19Cutlass94
Time to find a new mechanic. The first thing he should be doing is plugging in a scan tool to find out what the sensors are doing. This will almost always tell you the issue. Sent from my iPhone in some random spot of Texas. I havent spent much money on fixing the issues it had when i bought it. Tops $250. So i'm happy i'm not throwing a bunch of money at it. I actually was planning on spending $500 - $700 fixing it up when I bought it. Time to find a new mechanic. Wouldnt the scan tool throw a code if something was not right?
19Cutlass94
Not always. Just because it doesnt through a code doesnt mean theres nothing wrong. Even though your car is '96 which is OBDII, it still will not throw a code for every little detail. Its not like the cars of today. Purpose of the scan tool is to view the datastream to see what all the sensors are doing and find something in all of that is off..
crunkGP96
well this car is a 95. My old GP was a 96 hence the screen name. I still haven't heard anything. We'll see tomorrow. Hopefully its figured out and I could drive the damn thing so I can put up my 00 GTP for sale like I originally planned. I know, doesn't make much sense to downgrade but I have my reasons. crunkGP96
Got it all figured out!! The cat was plugged and the fuel pump was bad as well. Removed the cat and you could barely see through it! Installed new fuel pump and cat and the car runs perfect! Time to put up my 00 GTP Daytona for sale and use this for DD duty!
