Starflare5 Posted December 10, 2012 Report Share Posted December 10, 2012 Hey guys, In this past week I saw a Christmas movie where in the end a woman finds out that her Cadillac (which she thought was a piece of junk), was more rarer than she thought. This got me to thinking "I wonder if GM made any of their cars in other divisions rare." I knew that my car had to have some rarity to it because it is a 1994 Cutlass Supreme SL and that it is a first edition (relesed in fall of 1993) '94 as well. So I found this site: http://www.compnine.com/vid.php in a google search and after entering the VIN, I found that there were not that many Cutlass Supremes produced with a similar VIN within that year even. Just a little over 2000. So, I broke it down further with options, and found that there were only 228 of my car ever produced. In other words, not only is a '94 CS rare, but, in a sea of a few thousand, so far, it has been discovered that only 228 of my particular car was produced. Try it out guys. But there were also RPO codes that kept track of weeks produced. Which is why so many people with forest green 2002 cavaliers were getting "1 or 56" cars. The only car I've owned that could be considered rare was the Lumina. But just by the color alone. Yes, there were definately more than 2000 CS made in that year, however, there was a particular break down in this case. One was that my particular CS did not come with the normal 4T60E transaxle. Mine actually came with the rare MX transaxle as indicated by the VIN letter "MX" directly in the middle of it. So, I removed it, put the MX in it's place and it stated that there were at least a few hundered. The other RPOs broke it down to the 228. Couldn't go further than that or I'd have to pay. Couldn't go further than that or I'd have to pay. you're looking at two different things. 4Txx is a model number, not an RPO code. there IS an RPO code for it, but i'm not certain if it's 4T60E specific, been too long since i've looked into it. As what the merchandising code is, my best guess is that it was information for either the dealer or someone. Every car I have checked the RPO has 2 codes for the Transmissions. one for the tranny itself and the other is for the merchandising option. I really don't know thou. As what the merchandising code is, my best guess is that it was information for either the dealer or someone. Every car I have checked the RPO has 2 codes for the Transmissions. one for the tranny itself and the other is for the merchandising option. I really don't know thou. Just my guess as to what it means. What wasthe difference between 6WP and 7WP besides the obvious left and right? Also, I think I figured out what the merchandising option was. My car has Traction Control. There is no light or indicator for it, but, whenever in a slipery situation such as about to hydroplane from rain, it kicks in and you can tell though, they seemed to work at keeping it hidden. I wonder why. Umm as far as I am aware there are no 4t60-e equipped w-bodies that came with traction control. The closest thing is the grand prixs with a second gear start. My '94 deffinately has it, but, not even a light. There is a fuse for it in the RH fuse box over the computer also. Anyway, the way I figured out that mine has it is that I was about to hydroplane with the cruise control on. When my car felt slippage, it automatically engaged the brakes, turned off the cruise, and adjusted and corrected wheel spin. It litterally saved me in a split second before I realized what happened. From what I read, This was a "standard" feature that was in test for roughly 5-6 years before GM actually started to add switches to enable and disable it. It started with the solenoid being added to the 4T60E transaxles, though, the year it actually started is kind of fuzzy because GM started testing this since 1992 with their smaller vehicle lines first and the newer ABS systems. That's more on the lines of the abs sensors sensing too big change from one wheel to the next so It disengauges the cruise. If you are driving with your foot on the gas holding it steady your tires will break free. They will continue to spin until you let off the gas. Not trying to burst your bubble or anything.
