John M
I need to replace the top sensor, the one behind the motor. I can see it but not sure on how to get at the thing. Removing the dog bone I might be able to get one hand on it. Garage on the corner wants $65 to do it. My time or let the shop have it...? GOT2B GM
Pulling the intake plenum makes it reasonable, but for $65, you can't go wrong if you are thinking you might have trouble with it.
RobertISaar
yeah, with the plenum off, it's significantly easier to get at. assuming you trust the shop not to break/hide things, $65 isn't too bad.
John M
Is it possible to tip/tilt this motor? I tried on a '92 ,but was unable to move it.
White93z34
I've done it by removing the airbox and reaching around the back of the engine before with a crows foot o2 sensor wrench. Pain but I'd do it that way before removing the plenum.
Galaxie500XL
My understanding is that you shouldn't tip the 3.4. The engine mounts are different than the ones used on the 2.8/3.1. Others here should be able to confirm/deny that. I replaced my O2 sensor while the plenum was already removed for a timing belt replacement. Since the service interval for the belt is 50,000 miles, I intend to replace it again when the belt needs its' next replacement. Is it possible to tip/tilt this motor? I tried on a '92 ,but was unable to move it.
John M
After studying the car I could only see 3 ways to change the O2. 1 remove the EGR valve and some hoses, 2 remove a section of exhaust pipe, 3 go to the shop and pay $65. I am going with option 3.
