raymire59
Any comments on what is currently the best choice for rear struts on a Z34 Lumina as far as handling & ride? Thanks

55trucker
What are you looking for in the way the shocks behave? Monroe & Gabriel both manufacture variable & single rate rate damping shocks for these particular cars while KYB & only makes a single rate *twin-tube* design & Sachs & AC DELCO only make a variable rate shock/strut. 19Cutlass94
KYB GR2's hands down. Ive had monroe/sensatracs on my car before, and they blew out. Several times. I would not recommend them to anyone.
vyper144
I love my KYB GR-2 Excels!
Crazy K
on the front I will ONLY use KYB GR2 on the rear I prefer the sensatracks, as i can warranty them out locally with ease, and I have not had them jamb into the jounce bumpers like the KYBs have done.. My only set on sensatracks that was properly assembled (some were on cars when purchased, without proper installation of protective boots) that needed replacement had 200,000 miles on them. raymire59
Thanks for the responses. Looking for the best mix of ride & handling... mostly handling.
55trucker
Well, like the others, try the KYB's, being a single rate shock they will give you the same degree of dampening no matter what the situation, whereas the variable rate shocks are more suited to a comfort atmosphere where a small amount of rebound will cause the shock to be very mild but a larger rebound will alter the valve dampening to increase the dampening effort, but at this point I can't personally say if the variables give one more dampening at full tilt with respect to what the KYB's do under the same condition seeing as the original shocks on my car (91) were a single rate shock. I as well have KYB's on the car, and would rather give up some of the smooth ride of the variables in favor of a more aggressive dampening feel.
