95LQ1VERT
I have been battling an annoying starter issue lately. On cold starts, the starter was engaging good and started the engine, but while at operating temp it seems like it gets heat soaked and the solenoid only clicked and did not engage until you cycled it a few times, then it barely cranked to life. so I had it tested at AZ and it failed misserably while smoking to its death, so i bought a new reman unit and replaced it. First attempt to start it with new unit = same solenoid click and sometimes engaging. then after a few tries it fired up with a "whirring" noise. So i figured it needed shims, at the moment I have the largest shim in there now and it stopped with the noise but im stuck with an intermittent issue with the solenoid clicking and then after a few tries it starts up on the new unit. It sound like the ring gear is hitting the flywheel before the teeth mesh together. Could this one be a bad one or what? Sorry its a long post... Battery good, fully-charged, and with GOOD CABLES and cable ends? It sound like the ring gear is hitting the flywheel before the teeth mesh together. The ring gear is part of the flywheel. Do you mean the pinion/starter drive gear? Could this one be a bad one or what? Of course. Anything can be defective. "I" would be testing voltage drop on the POWER side, AND on the GROUND side. Cables are good as far as I can see, and the cable end as in the ones that connect to the battery? If Yes those are fine. That is what I was looking for
