93 Cutlass Supreme With 3.4 DOHC blown engine. Can I install A 94 or 95 model 3.4

I have a 1993 Cutlass supreme convertible that has a blown 3.4 DOHC engine. From what I know now, that only a 91 92 or 93 engine from Lumina, GP, or Cutlass will work. I have picked up a 3.4 engine from a 1995 Lumina that only has 34K on it. What do I have to do to make this swap work. For the most part it is a direct bolt up but there maybe some wiring issues.

Bolt it in and go. Swap your knock sensor over to be safe, o2 sensor too, may as well buy a new one they are cheap. I think everything else is basically the same, but check the rest of the sensors to be safe.

the cam sensor on the front cam carrier just wont be used, if it has a secondary crank sensor near the crank pulley it wont be used either.

other then looking slightly different it will work just as well as the original did, with the benefit of easier timing belt changes. Also with only 34k over 18 years might be a good idea to replace the timing belt on that new engine.

It can and has been done. but you need to do a few more things...

The long block is the same, but the cam carriers and timing cover have changed, the timing cover due to a change in the alternator and crank sensor at the pulley. BUT... you don't have to change those.

Leave the 94+ cam and pulley crank sensor unhooked, and use a new O2 sensor for a 93.

You will have to use a 94 alternator with that engine so you will have to learn what to change to do that, you will probably have to cut off the 93 plug pigtail and solder on a 94 pigtail.

you may also need to swap over some vacuum related stuff.... the 94-95 "vacuum module" is different than the 91-93 version. notably, the 91-93 is already setup for the MAP, the 94-95 would need a vacuum splice and the MAP sensor possibly mounted elsewhere.

Thanks... I couldn't find anything on the net regarding 94 and 95 swaps to the 93 model year... Thanks again

Why cant i just use the same 1993 alternator if the long blocks are the same?

I have been running a 94 LQ1 in my 1991 GP for about three years and 75,000 miles trouble free. The only real thing I had to do was change the alternator plug and some vacuum lines. When you splice the 94-up plug into your harness, make sure you reverse the wires, otherwise you will kill the alternator.

.... the plug should have the terminals labeled. or at least where they plugged into the regulator does. i know mine did. i actually left the old connector on just in case.

What do you mean by reversing the wires. I assume that the wires are colored the same but just a different connector. Now, can I use my 93 alternator or do I have to use a 94 alternator
