sparxxraps
ok so i pulled my trans pan to do a filter change removed the old filter came out fairly easily install new one it goes in easy until it wont seem to go any farther in well wen its in its not like snug in there it doesnt fall out but if u push up on the part of the filter where the inlet deal is not the filter moves around noticably. this didnt seem right to me so i changed the gasket lil metal ring deal in the trans and its the same way with the new one this isnt like normal for these cars is it id hate to put the pan back on an fill it back up just to have to pull it again. Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks guys P.s Does the filter need an o ring? the old one didn have one on it Edited November 27, 2012 by sparxxraps
19Cutlass94
The filter should come with a little "hat" on it that goes in the valvebody of the trans. if that is in good shape, dont replace it ( I never did when mine was auto ) Take the filter out, put the new filter up in. There is no o-ring to speak of. The filter will move a little bit, its not like its bolted in place, so its not gonna be solid. Its just held in by that "hat" that goes in the valvebody like I said. rich_e777
regular hammer and a few pieces of cardboard or wood work too, use small taps vs big whacks. i always tell ppl to stick an additional magnet in their pan, probably too much from what others say but its one of those things i picked up from old skool pros. virtuetovice
Just like the others said, tap it in snug! Best magnets come from old hard disk drives, if you have some security bits an old hard drive and some time to kill.
dodgethis
The filter i put in my trans was loose as well, It was in there as it should be, but I did feel as it was too loose. Believe me if its in there and snug, its fine. I haven't had an issue since I replaced mine.

sparxxraps
Reinstalled the pan filled up tranny. yeah it did feel like it was loose but the more i thought about it the more it seemed like it was just the way it is. im slowly fixin her up a tranny pan drain plug would be real nice tho spilledthat crap everywhere takin the pan off. ill have to see about addin new magnet in the future i got a desk drawer full of old computer harddrives. the old fluid actually looked pretty good but it never hurts to change it since i dunno when the po changed it if they did an she is sittin at right about 189k an still runs like a top. are these trannys generally pretty reliable? i intend to keep this car a long time and put alot more miles on her Edited November 30, 2012 by sparxxraps
