19Cutlass94
Youll have to tear it apart. Theres no way to get the lifter out without taking the tray off. And to take the tray off, youll need to remove the LIM.
Andrew
and you'll have to replace the lifter. theres no fixing it.
joecutlass
Screw it! Motors under warranty. Getting another, going through it and replacing all the shit that concerns me. Like lifters. Haha
Andrew
I doubt a warranty would allow you to replace an engine over a lifter tick. Its cheaper to replace the lifters.
Crazy K
when a lifter in my roommates truck starting ticking loudly all the time, I dumped 1/2 a quart of transmission fluid in. basically the same stuff as STP oil treatment. tick went away. revnrob
I have always just took them apart and cleaned out the sludge,,has worked for me for years.
Euro
I had a lifter noise in my junk as well, I've tried running thicker oil with some oil stabilizer to see if I could get it to loosen up...but to no real avail. Might as well go to town and fix it, I have to do that as well.
mhildebrand
http://www.marvelmysteryoil.com/ I used this on my dads '01 Taurus with lifter tick. 4oz. in with the oil. After 500 or so miles, the tick went away. I put it in every other oil change. Edited November 28, 2012 by mhildebrand
virtuetovice
Check the clearance on the lifters?
Crazy K
I have always just took them apart and cleaned out the sludge,,has worked for me for years. I do this on every intake i perform, and in fact several times lifters have needed to be replaced from wear.... But the OP just did his intake, so a different solution is worth a shot... http://www.marvelmysteryoil.com/ I used this on my dads '01 Taurus with lifter tick. 4oz. in with the oil. After 500 or so miles, the tick went away. I put it in every other oil change. exactly, this is just a brand of the same type of stuff as STP oil treatment which is basically a heavy detergent oil... aka transmission fluid if you realize there is no need for paying for the brand name. I only put it in if needed 24 hours before an oil change or in the case of the 4.3 GM truck, cause it was ticking, I do not run if full time. In the case of the truck it will need intake gaskets, but I have a set of 100,000 mile lifters from the j/y that look great, which are currently disassembled and stored in a solvent/cleaning/lubricant solution, and i will reassemble them prior to opening the truck up. Ready swapping to make the job quick!
joecutlass
Well, they are pulling another motor for me. The car hasnt seen very many miles and having water in the oil does qualify it to be exchanged because it was a mechanical failure. So, with the new junkyard motor on its was, that only has 28k on it, ill go through and replace all the gaskets and seals, that are still under warranty thtough autozone and change the head gaskets to make sure that they are good. While im at it, does anyone know of any other internal upgrades, that are low cost, that can be done? I remember saar telling me about the lifter spring/valve spring upgrade.
