T.R.W.
Hello all, I'm going to rebuild my 94 Z34 this winter/spring(while the engine is still rebuildable) and I want more H.P./torque. My engine is running like crap(high idle, stumbles),the water pump leaks, leaks 1/2 qt. of oil a week and has a 127,000 mi on the clock right now. #1 How much H.P/torque can the auto trans handle both stock or upgraded if thats possible. #2 I want to keep the engine normally aspirated as in NO funny gas,No turbos/super chargers and able to run pump gas (92-93 octane). So,give me your suggestion on what parts I can use both aftermarket and GM. As far a builder my uncle worked in a shop for over twenty years rebuilding engines/porting heads etc.,so I don't see any problems with getting my engine put back together with his help. Is 300-325 or approx 100 H.P. per liter out of line for a 3.4 DOHC "On the motor"? What pistons(C.R.),cams,injectors/rails,chip/computers etc. would make a good combo ? This won't be a daily driver, but more of a weekend/Sunday criuser. I still need some driveability though with the auto trans/pwr brakes etc., so a big assed lumpy cam may not work that well. Thanks in advance for your suggestions/tips !
99RegalGS
You could use the 4T60E-HD trans. It was used with the 3800 s/c which has 225 hp and 275 torque. That's all that I can help with.
T.R.W.
Thanks ! My Aunt has a 3800 s/c car(4 dr Buick) she bought new a few years ago. .Can't remember what model(Regal?),but man that ENGINE ! The first time I lifted the hood I thought "DAMN" my aunts car could whip most of the cars I've owned and she won't ever drive it over the speed limit ! sonyman87
Give Aaraon a buz he just did a rebuild. if you really want more performance do a 5-speed swap! that will take a full seccond off your Qt mile time. you can P&P intake and exaust, CAI, Poly. Dogbone, Underdirive pully, and Chip here, Finally Bore the motor and shave the heads. This should take you into the mid low 14s. with all that power you might want to upgrade your suspension. KYB Gr2 is a favorit choice around here for struts. STB bars front and back aswell as springs(optional), and sway bars. anything else guys? That is either a 1992+ Buick Park Ultra, or a 97+ Regal GS. Yeah I want that engine!
T.R.W.
Thanks guys ! I'll check in tomarrow and see what you all have come up with. Next time I stop by my aunts house I'll see what car it is. Thanks 93RegalGS now I can't get my aunt's car out of my head, cause for the life of me I can't remember what it is ! I think there have been some posts here about swapping in the 3.8L S/C engines/trans into different cars like mine(1994 Z34 lumina). I'll do a search on it. That may be a route I can go. May cause more headaches than its worth though(wiring, fit, transaxle width,etc.). Plus finding a suitable donor S/C vehicle may be kinda hard to come by(kinda rare?),but I do have friends in the auto salvage business who could look out for one at the auctions. john99gtp
Do I smell an L67 swap ? I would love to do an L67 swap in my lumina. Imagine me in my car, old ass family sedan, running <15.5 at the drags, owning imports left and right. MMMMM! That'll never happen no money! There are a ton of s/c series II 3800's. The series I s/c is more rare. If you are going to do a 3800 swap go to http://www.l67swap.com
