urbex
Hey. I've been noticing an oil leak on my engine that appears to be coming from behind the water pump. Well it's getting to the point now where it's dripping onto the driveway and staining where I park. Is there anything behind the water pump that would leak? I could see it a lot better if I took the water pump off, but I don't want to take it all the way off just to see. It'd be different if I was fixing it today. Well, I'm not sure what's leaking. It might be coming out of the block it would almost look like. My dad wasn't sure and wondered if there's anything behind the pump like any sending unit or something that might be prone to leaking? It'd be a heck of a lot easier to know what's behind the water pump before taking it off. I just don't want to get back there after all sorts of work and not see anything leaking. Just thought maybe some others had some knowledge on what's back there or if it's normal for my block to start leaking there or something. On a side note, the area under the car I first noticed the oil was on the bottom of the tray for the engine mount. I know that's not bad since I just replaced it in the winter, and I put a solid one in... So that's not leaking. Thanks!
GOT2B GM
valve cover gasket, LIMG or if its REALLY your lucky day, the timing cover.
urbex
I know it's not the valve cover gaskets either because we just replaced those, and the area around them is dry. I'm going to guess it's the LIMG then... In which case, not getting fixed! Thanks!
rich17
LIM gaskets are easy if youre mechanically inclined. Did mine in about 4 hours but drank a 6 pack doing so
urbex
It's not that I'm afraid of doing it, it's just that I don't really feel like bothering. I don't know. Maybe once it starts leaking more.

urbex
It would have probably been easier to do when we replaced the valve cover gaskets... Oh well. At least now I know how to take everything apart and put back together quickly now.
