bkaab
Ok so I picked up this parts car that has a broken engine cradle and somethings really broke in the rear end. But it runs and drove good so I figured Id use it for my 96 since I kind of forgot what went where so id be nice just to swap straight across. The engine is going into my car along with the driver seat. the rest is up for grabs if someone wants to buy. After about a week or 2 the car is going to the scrap yard. Anyway below is the progress of the swap. With some questions. Ok so far Ive changed the temp sensor, knock sensor, changed the harness under the UIM, and switched back to the 96 UIM and EGR off the old engine. Ok so I had to switch the wiring harness under the UIM on the engine to the one that come off my 96. I have two questions now. What is this plug on my 96 harness and how should it be routed. Its on the throttle body side of the intake. Is this an old temp sensor on the back of the head?
19Cutlass94
I believe that plug is your EGR plug. On the 1994 it will be a triangle shaped plug. It should be routed just the way it is. And yes that is the old coolant temp sensor ( for the cluster ) in the rear head. Your 1996 should have a 3 wire coolant temp sensor by the thermostat. Use that. Its more accurate. This fit into the EGR plug but it don't have as many wires as the EGR has prongs.
19Cutlass94
Did you check the CPS? Either there or the ICM on the throttle body side.
jman093
USE THE ALUMINUM VALVE COVERS FROM THE 96, NOT THE PLASTIC 1994 ONES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, the 96 should have roller rockers that could be swapped onto the 94 engine. I can't remember if you just have swap the stud and rocker or if the heads have to be swapped. Crazy K
i could use the dash carrier, and maybe the passenger seat's upholstery, if it's the right color and style. Yes, use the ALUMINUM valve covers. you should also put in a fel-pro problem solving intake gasket. and replace the oil distributor drive gear gaskets. read up on it in the FAQ thread. the roller rockers from the 96 will not fit onto the 94, unless you are brave enough to cut notches into it yourself......... I would leave them be... or would I? yeah, I would cut notches if i could do so with machine precision.... If precision notches could not be made, I would leave them be.
