BrianK82
94' Cutlass Supreme Conververtible, 3.4l DOHC, Auto.....Was pulling up to a stop light on a slight incline. Trans started downshifting as usual, when it went to drop into 1st, it was suddenly as if the car was in neutral. The engine rpms rose and then fell to idle, and the car wanted to roll backwards. I verified I was still in drive, and removed my foot from the brake and the car was still wanting to roll back. Gave it a little gas and still nothing. I pulled the shifter down into 1st manually, still nothing. I then shifted into park, and I felt in go into park. I then placed it back into drive, and everything was back to normal. I had no more problems on the way home, but it's got me kinda feeling odd. The car has 116,000, had a fluid and filter swap at 109,000. The fluid is up to level, trans hot in park, and has good color and smell. Any ideas or previous experience with this? Thanks.
AWeb80
just a normal GM trans that is starting to slilp. Could last a few thousand miles with no problems, or shit out on you in 5 miles.
Crazy K
let me ask... (cause facepalming over this has happened before) the fluid level is being checked on level ground, car warm and running in park, correct? there is alot of advice out there that the transmission should actually be 1/2 quart overfilled from what the line on the stick says anyhow, so i say do that.... a 4t60e has a modulator, it could be bad or leaking. new ones are ten bucks. simple fail test is to unplug the modulator and turn it facing down, if fluid leaks, it is bad. is it located on the front face of the transmission, down ward of where the return radiator hose is. look for a metal line with a rubber connection to the modulator. BrianK82
LOL, face palming, yes, in the garage, engine at 195*, after good 10 mile trip, running in park. I'll try the modulator if it does it again, and I'm going to put Seafoam transmission tune in. If it is anything like there fuel system cleaner, should do wonders.
