3400 LA1 throttle body on a 3100 LG8?

I was thinking about getting a throttle body from a 3400 Impala for my Century. It's a little bit bigger (54mm compared to my 52mm IIRC). Will there be much work to swapping them, and will there be much of a difference? It'll be from a JY car, but I plan on extensively cleaning it before it goes on. While I'm at it, is there anything else that can be easily swapped from the 3400 (or even the 3500) to give me a little more power/throttle response? I'm already working on a shield for a SRI that I have in the works..

56mm vs 52mm

it's noticable. pretty much a direct swap IIRC.

you can swap on the 3500(non-VVT) upper intake if you'd like. not much of a power difference, but if you like the look..... it's not going to hurt power with a stockish engine.

Thanks! I might look into the top swap, but most of the 3500 cars I've seen there have been sell picked over, and have a lot of engine parts missing. I might just stick with the TB swap for now.

Is the 3500 TB a direct swap/worth it, or am I better off with the 3400?

3500 TB is drive-by-wire. 65mm too, IIRC. so if you can control that, go for it.

there may be some articles on wot-tech.com from Ben, or maybe posts on 60V6 that would have more accurate info.

Hmm. I'll have to take a look into that. Were the early 3500s cable driven? I know people have put the 3500 in Grand Ams.. I'll have to do some more research. I bet the 65mm TB would make a nice difference. I can do some minor modifications (limited tools and space, so I can't do anything big), so I *might* be able to make the drive by wire work if possible.

no, all 3.5 and 4th gen 60V6 engines were DBW.

the hot ticket before TCE started making complete throttle bodies was the shortstar(3.5 DOHC) TB, it's cable driven and 65mm. requires an adapter to use though.

the only real issue with DBW is just having a PCM that will control it. after that, it's not an issue.

I'll have to take a look at the 3500 TB. I'm not too familiar with them.. I'd love to be able to make that work, but I have a feeling that I'll just go with the 3400.

I've read about the 3.5 shortstar needing an adapter..

This may be a stupid question, but is the TB gasket reusable, or will I have to get a new one?

I got my TB last week, and finally got it on today. I made a run yesterday, and these are the results from torque:

I didn't get a chance to do an "after" run because it started raining after I got the new TB on. I'll try to get one tomorrow to see if there's a difference.
