Gas saving devices

i have started using premium gas in the cutty. There is a mpg difference i can say that much. I drove the exact same way for 2 weeks, one week using 89, and one week using 90. I got 11mpg and 16mpg. Maybe the weather temps made the difference in these too greater, because the 11mpg week was 25 degrees and less, while the 16mpg week was between 30-40degrees. Right now i am running 91, and by guessing where my gas gauge is at now and my mileage id say i am about 12-14. Because i have been heavy on the gas the past few days. Oh, and each day during those two weeks, i didnt get the rpms past 3500, and only a few times merging onto the freeway got them past 3000rpms. Which again grandma the car like that will increase the mpg also. averaging acceleration was 2000-2500rpms depending on how heavy traffic was.

I have a new gas saving device :D

all you do is go to a construction site grab a brick and place it underneath the gas pedal!!! Instantly you will notice much much less gass consumption in your daily driving.

caution/disclaimer: acceration speed will dramaticly be reduced and car maynot perform as desired under load.

I have to step in and say zmax does do something for the motor being mineral oil or whatever its suppose to be. i have seen some Great numbers using that stuff before i foundout its suppose to eat at your bearings...

I bought my 89 cutty 2.8 with 170K miles and lower end motor knock. I used full syn and prolong and beat the crap outta it. My friend beat it more than it could take while I was away at college and it died at 210K. That's 40K with really bad lower end knock. If I ran 10W40 or lighter weight and was at a stop light with the car up to temp, the low oil pressure light would blink. I ran 20W50 for the 2 years that I owned it.

Also, i get considerably better gas mileage with premium rather than regular. 2 MPG difference. 16 vs 14, so I say it's worth it. And I've tried to gramma the car. It did me no justice on the MPG.

I would go ahead and try to replace that oil pump and oil pump strainer/filter first and see if that makes a difference.

Oil pump is ignored all the time with regards to knocking noise. Use a mechanical gauge or electrical gauge that shows that actual pressure in PSI.

if it was the pump, I doubt that it would have higher pressure with a thicker weight. As the oil goes through the bearings that are worn, it causes the oil to lose pressure. BTW, that car is in car heaven somewhere now.
