Gunboat
ok,got the used tranny back in (it came out of a 92 Grand Prix)..now,for some reason it refuses to go into D2 or D1, it doesn't want to start in park,..it will start in reverse...do I have to adjust the shift cable or something? I kept the shifter in park the whole time I was working on it..I put the shift on the tranny into park,( I believe that I had it in park...)Seeing as how the lever will only go on one way because of the flats on it,could I have not gotten it into park? Isn't park turned all the way one way?BTW,my car is a Z34 1992..3.4L..any help here is appreciated..thanks in advance..
RobertISaar
i BELIEVE when you do anything shift position switch related, you're supposed to do it based off of the neutral position.

Crazy K
this is an adjustment issue with the range switch wich is the large flat assembly under the lever.
pshojo
When I replaced my switch, I must be lucky. Slapped it on and no problems. I might have had it in neutral...
Crazy K
When I've done it, I chocked the tires and placed the car in reverse, key on, engine off. I adjusted it to the midpoint where the reverse lights are on and tightened it down. checked all functions (start in P and N only) and called it good. RobertISaar
on the newer stuff, there are actually two little see-through dots on the cluster or console around the N position, from what i understand, that's what they're there for. i don't remember seeing them on the earlier setups though.
