Redrunner
I am going tomorrow to get the 97 gtp to swap into my 97 z34. So here is where the problem comes in. The 97 gtp has a 3.29 FDR I believe and the 97 Z34 has a 3.43 FDR(both these numbers and info on what they do I found on the web so I don't know how accurate it is.....). Assuming the info i found is correct, one of these 2 options will happen. 1. the 2.93 gearing will give me good mpg something like 32 freeway, and the 3.43 gearing will cause my engine to run higher rpms like 2500 at 70mph and 27mpg, while putting me into the boost from the supercharger quicker????? (btw I am just learning about this so please dumb it out for me if I got it wrong:o) 2. My transmission will blow up....... and I'm screwed with this being said will the l67 be good with the 3.43 gearing so i can just use the 97 z34 pcm, tranny, axles, and just get the 3800 wiring harness then tune the shift points from 6500(which i am pretty sure will explode the engine) to the 5500rpm or maybe ??5750rpm?? or will it be worth buying a new axle(the spindle for the side i need from the gp is bad), swapping axles, getting the 2.93 gearing from tranny, a new use the 97 gp pcm, get a 3800 harness, and have a 0-60 in 6.5 second car and mileage that compares to my friends turbo saab? (all this work is being done at a professional shop because I need my car by September 3rd) P.S srry for a long write out I want as much info as possible so I get it right the first time. White93z34
I run a L67 in front of a 3.06 4t60-e Its been just fine for 30,000 miles now. Your biggest concern will be that the 97' z34 likely has a 4t60-e and the GTP will have a 4t65-e-hd. What year engine harness are you planning on using? TBH you'd be ahead to use both the engine and trans from the 97' GTP and a 98-99 monte/lumina engine harness a L67/4t60-e is a unusual combination. I know I had to go through some hoops to make it all work well since the only year that had that combo was 96' bonnevilles, riverias and park avenues. the 98-99 monte/lumina harness works with very minor tweaks, and that all depends on how exact you want to be. axles are the only thing I don't know about with running a 4t65-e-hd. in a gen1 but its been done plenty of times so i'm sure that info is out there. Redrunner
Thanks for you help. I believe that the 4t65e-hd will require an axle from the GTP meshed with the axle from the z34, and with this a bunch of headaches to get the tune to get the engine running right from either pcms, not sure why it just does:shrug:. I will be getting just a wiring harness from the 98 Monte Carlo Z34, according to the swap guide that should work. Worse comes to worse could I keep the tranny and pcm from the gtp(like i said front axle from gtp pm the side i need is trashed) and just use my tranny from the monte carlo. RobertISaar
the 97 MC/lumina 3.4s got the 4T65. to confirm, look in the airbox area, roughly where the engine and transmission meet, if it were a 60, it would have a vacuum line running to the modulator, along with a circular plug with 7 wires going into it, the 65 has no vacuum modulator and a circular plug with something like 14 wires coming out of it.
