Geoff97Cutlass Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 I was wondering which brand & how it sounded. Quote
BrianG Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 I never had an aftermarket muffler on my 3.1 MPFI, but I did have the mufflers cut off and had twin Monza dual-out resonated tips put on. I liked the way it sounded. Not *too* loud either. Dunno if that helps. Quote
Euro Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 I had an Advance Auto Parts special Dynomax on mine for a while. Was quiet, people had no idea it wasn't stock It sounded awesome once it had developed a rust hole though Quote
94 olds vert Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 Flowmasters sound good on a 3.1l. Quote
RobertISaar Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 stock muffler(s) also sound awesome once they develop rust caused leakage. Quote
EGTGP Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 all i have on my tgp is a high flow cat and resonator not very loud and sounds fantastic. Quote
tornado_735 Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 Brian (LuminaPower) has aftermarket mufflers on one of his many Luminas. He should be able to provide a video. But yes, 3.1s (and 2.8s, and 3100s, and 3400s) sound glorious with cheap aftermarket mufflers. Shit, I had an 95 Grand Prix coupe with NO mufflers, and it sounded amazing. Droned something terrible though. Quote
Geoff97Cutlass Posted August 20, 2012 Author Report Posted August 20, 2012 I guess I should ask what diameter of exhaust pipe is being used too. Quote
LuminaPower92 Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 I have 2.5 Magnaflow Knockoff mufflers with a highflow Magnaflow Cat. Stainless Piping 2.5 the whole way. Quote
LuminaPower92 Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 Mine have been 2 1/4 brah. until i changed em Quote
Geoff97Cutlass Posted August 22, 2012 Author Report Posted August 22, 2012 This guy's car sounds nice: My 97 only has single exhaust do you think that would alter the sound greatly? Quote
mra32 Posted August 22, 2012 Report Posted August 22, 2012 MY 91 3.1 was less than 2" OD. It was close, but still less than. My summit welded chamber muffler sounded great. and it fit right in place. There is a video of an achieva with dual flowmasters. I think it sounds great: [video=youtube;g8o16UHoW6A] Quote
RobertISaar Posted August 22, 2012 Report Posted August 22, 2012 FWIW: 95 MC 3100(single exhaust obviously), i have a 2" inlet cherry bomb glasspack in place of the original muffler, it slipped over the existing pipe and has quite a gap. Quote
ricklovin93 Posted August 22, 2012 Report Posted August 22, 2012 I once had thrush turbo mufflers they were okay not bad for what I payed for them Quote
base93lumina Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 On my 93 Lumina 3.1, i have2.5" piping from the down pipe all the way back to the y-pipe, its the stock size pipe from there into two Flowtech Raptors. It sounds pretty mean and i have had alot of compliments on it. Sounds mean and almost v8 throaty at idle, literally no rasp, and only drones from 1700-2100. I love how it sounds. Its 150 miles away right now or i would get a sound clip for you. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 2.5" exhaust, dual, with Dynomax mufflers: Quote
redgrandprix Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 i have 2 summit street strip mufflers on my car with a hollowed out cat and its as loud if not slightly louder than my dad 5.7 TPI trans am with a flowmaster 40 aftercat and headers Quote
