Redrunner
Ok so my 97 z34's engine bit the dust(heads were destroyed from slipped timing), All the "better" donor cars were sold but I found a 97 gtp w/ 140,000 for 800. Body and interior r bad but engine and trans are good. however i got a few questions. Firstly Ik that the 97s were a very screwy year, but besides needing a 98 pcm what else does it need and what else isn't right with them? I have the 4t65e tranny already so would I need to modify the axle(the spindle on the gtp is not good)? I am just going to buy the wiring harness new from autozone so what would be the best one?(ik they got a police edition and so on) most importantly is it worth it? I am having a shop doing this since I need this car back and running asap. The body on my monte is in such good condition that the guy at the shop told me that junking it isn't worth it and its best to buy a new engine. 9lumina6
Get a complete harness out of a 98-99 3800 LTZ Lumina or Z34 Monte Carlo. If possible use the same year Grand Prix PCM as the year of the motor. You're already OBD 2 so you dont have to worry about doing the OBD 2 swap.....might have to re-pin the harness (I'm not totally sure on that tho). You'll need to extend the pigtail for the MAP sensor I believe and as for running the BBV....just let that run naturally. (Don't tie it in with the Vac lines.) If you wanted to run that in with the harness you can get it on ZZP's website. Because that is a car with the LQ1 motor you'll need to have the fuel lines extended I believe. For the Downpipe....Just find one out of an L36 1.5Gen car. Or I believe there's a place online (can't remember who tho) you can get a 3'' DP made just for 1.5 Gen L67 swapped cars. ZZP does not make a 3'' DP to fit 1.5 Gen 3800's. Edited August 18, 2012 by 9lumina6
Redrunner
k sweet thanks I am having it professionally done. So not too worried about that and I'm just going to use my tranny since its the same one with less miles. Would we be able to just use the fuel lines from the donor car? The whole car is 800 its not totally just has a bad spindle one missing seat and no radio but everything else should work, even the a/c . Since the engine is out anyways, is there anything i else i should point out for replacing before the gaskets and maybe the t-belt? lastly what else would be swap-able from the car? more specifically the rear bucket seats, the head lights(mine r really dim do to sun damage would like some replacements temporarily), dash guages, and the interior door trim. 9lumina6
While the L67 is out I would highly recomend changing the oil pan gasket. Since once it;s in the car, and it starts leaking.....you have to lower the sub-frame to access some of the bolts for it. probably wouldnt be a bad idea to do the valve cover gaskets either. They arent too horribly hard to do in the car...but would be that much easier to do if the motor is out.

Redrunner
Despite my love for that engine i will have to turn it down. Its sucked too much dough out of me and needs too much work.....But will sell my engine to you if you want to go down that route. Besideds the heads its good. 120k on it and really needs a cleaning.
