Oilpatch197
I've noticed I get more temperature "swings" ever since I replaced my water pump. The difference is the impeller design. OEM was a FORGED spirally bladed impeller, the after-market is basically all stamped flat bladed paddles. Anyone else notice this? Now the only place that shows in stock is newgmparts.com, they got it listed. My understanding is a stamped impeller is SLIGHTLY more efficient vs a forged helical impeller, but I also understand that the helical forged impeller is capable of more pressure which should mean better cooling, but is less efficient. Could be my thermostat however. Edited July 14, 2012 by Oilpatch197
RobertISaar
thermostat is causing it. though i hate the stamped pump design as well.
White93z34
As someone who has ran both styles in different engines 60* and 90* v6s I've yet to notice any performance difference in the 2 styles. you likely have air in the cooling system or a bad thermostat if you are getting an overactive temp gauge.
