cswiney
Hi everyone, I recently have been getting random stalling while driving my 93 Lumina Euro. It I have checked all the vacuum lines and have done tune ups to try and correct the issue. But nothing seems to work. Also there is no codes being thrown for any issue. I am at a loss as to where to look first. It seems to happen more when I am driving in the daytime heat. Also when I am driving down the highway at about 50 to 60 mph I get at times where the engine feels like it is stumbling. When I give it gas it will correct it for a bit, but when I get back to a set cruising speed it will happen again. Not sure if the two are connected, but you never know. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry to not give more info as I have recently purchased this car and am trying to correct the issues asap. tornado_735
Does this Euro have the 3.1? or the DOHC 3.4L? I have a Euro with the 3.4, and I was having periodic stalling issues. Shortly after that symptom popped up, my Idle Air Control valve died resulting in a 3k RPM idle. I would clean or replace the IAC valve for starters. They are interchangeable between the 3.1 and 3.4, although the plug might face a different direction (my replacement was off of a 3.1L 1994 Grand Prix). The stumbling could be a multitude of different things, but a lot of times, it's the throttle position sensor. The sensor is basically a rheostat, and sometimes there is a dead spot in the sensor, which results in the PCM not knowing where the throttle is which can cause the stumble. I might be oversimplifying it, so anyone else feel free to add on or correct my info.
cswiney
Sorry I did not post the engine type earlier. Yes it is a 3.1. I will take a look at both the IAC and throttle position sensor. When you change the throttle sensor do you need to do any kind of calibration? I had a friend that replaced one on his car and I believe he said he had to calibrate the sensor before it would work right.

Garrett Powered
most people with any luck with these cars have gone into datalogging them. and chip changes. shooting in the dark with IAC MOTORS and replacing TPS without AT LEAST scanning with a scan tool is just what it is. if you have done the tune up and it still didn't fix it, then you will need to get a custom chip for it. does not matter what motor you have they are all computer controlled.
