Rear Struts

Quick Question,

My 92 Lumina which is lowered on a birchmount, sits significantly lower then my silver 93 with the same ordered 2.5in drop birchmount. Now i found out that my sub box was to blame as it was a little heavy, but not too bad. So its come up since then, but still sits a bit low. I hear the rear struts making noise so im assuming the lower suspension toasted my delco struts.

Any suggestions on some stiffer struts? When i replace the struts, any chance i can put my box back in there without the back dropping down, or do i need to find a single sub box?

Thanks John. I was considering kyb. Have you experience with them?

Lock it? Seriously? No.

I didn't reply as this question has been brought up only about 100 times

Yes the search engine here sucks, but not that much.

Unless you want to spend some bigger money you have essentially 2 options KYB or Monroe, both are OEM replacement, both not meant for lowered cars, people run them, say they do ok, I don't have a lowered car... I can't say. I've run both KYB and Monroe on my cars, can't say I've really had strong feelings to one or the other. Both decent products.

If you want something performance oriented, look into Koni. Download their catalog and start measuring stuff, its going to have to be a race insert and it will require money and time and effort to fit it to your car.

I just bought a pair of Gabriel rear struts for the Cutlass. They had a closeout on Rock Auto where it was $66 shipped for a pair and that included the top mounts -- at least it does based on the pictures on Gabriel's website.

Really? The search sucks. Could find nothing for people with lowered w bodies and strut suggestions. Hence why I asked the question. Monroe sucks, might as well go delco again. Might go with kyb gr2 like John suggested.

Really don't have to give me shit on the search engine, I'm don't post stuff unless I can't find it. But thanks.

Well if you hate Monroe that does not leave you much choice. If you buy Delco Struts you may as well have bought Monroes.

I gave you shit largely because the thread has been up less then 24 hours and you are asking for it to be closed due lack of response

I guess I'm the only lowered w then....

Sorry bout that....

I dunno, maybe its time for me to go.

Dude... why? Chill man. It's all good. You can't expect immediate responses. No reason to leave.

And yes, I had GR2's on a '92 Grand Prix, I really liked them, but I am comparing them to the Monroe Sensatracs I had on my '95 that were nice but not as stiff as I like.

Thanks John. I'm most likely going to give them a try.

As far as me considering leaving, not getting a quick response isn't close to any reason why.

Also the reason i went with delco struts before is the price. Working at a dealer, i can get deep discounts on stuff. could never pickup monroe for what i paid for delco.

Well you do know that ACDelco just slaps their name on someone elses strut and throws it in a ACD box right? And more often then not its Monroe who makes it for them.

KYBs are $50 each on rockauto for rears. Granted with little exception everyone here who has a lowered car runs KYBs, but IMO its not really the proper dampner for the job. But unless you are willing to spend nearly $200 per side and do a good bit of work to make it fit its about the only/best option.
