base93lumina Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 Does anyone know what the torque spec is for the front spindle to strut bolts are supposed to be? I cant find the numbers anywhere, and Google is useless. Quote
rich17 Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 lol I was semi serious. Just did struts on a 02 Impy. HAd the gun on em then cranked em more with a breaker bar. I doubt theyre going to move. Quote
base93lumina Posted June 12, 2012 Author Report Posted June 12, 2012 i put 90ft/lbs on mine cause i read it somewhere that thats what it was supposed to be. But hell, all the ones on other GM FWD cars were like over that, so im needing to know, cause i think it may be the cause of my knocking....maybe Quote
mfewtrail Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 Which of your cars are you asking about? Quote
base93lumina Posted June 12, 2012 Author Report Posted June 12, 2012 The 2000 GTP. I dont think the Lumina has spindle bolts, its got that all in one design going on. Quote
rich17 Posted June 13, 2012 Report Posted June 13, 2012 Yeah but the rears do. When I did that Impala I know the strut wasnt compressed against the spindle all that much so thats why I threw the breaker bar on there. I would definately crank them down if you only did 90ftlbs. Hell wheel lugs are 100 and theyre only 12mm. I believe the strut bolts are 16mm Quote
RobertISaar Posted June 13, 2012 Report Posted June 13, 2012 alldata is saying 90 ft/lb for the front suspension strut to steering knuckle bolts. 82 for the rears. Quote
RobertISaar Posted June 13, 2012 Report Posted June 13, 2012 i'm somewhat surprised as well. 96 MC rear strut to knuckle nut is 133, for comparison... Quote
base93lumina Posted June 19, 2012 Author Report Posted June 19, 2012 Yeah, when i pulled the struts out, i broke an impact socket on the end of a breaker bar the first time. Maybe i should put a little more torque on them next time i have the wheels off. Quote
