Looking for some help, I have read through the many different posts.

Ok guys i Just purchased a 94 vert on the 1st of June. This is my first Vert and second 3.4 dohc. Probably the first 3.4 i am actually gonna give 2 shits about. anyways have a few issues with the top, being its my first vert I have some learning to do. But at one point in time everyone had to learn, and there are people on here that have a lot more experiance with verts then I probably ever will have so hoping to tap your brains alittle.

My Convert top is slow as can be to put up, I have to help lift it from the full down position. I have checked fluid level, that is good. I have checked the rams, both look good. Don't see any broken ends. I have checked for leaks, None found. My guess is that the pump itself is weak or almost dead. is there a way to test the pressure coming out of the pump, if so what should it be.

Also when i do get the top up, i have to literly pull the top forward and down to get it far enough to close. Is there a way to adjust this so it drops right into the holes and latch down.

And lastly, did gm send out a supplement service manual for the verts. I have been lookin on ebay, craigslist, and amazon for a set of factory service manuals but non of them seam to cover anything about the verts. Any suggestions of finding a good set?

Thanks

Luke

P.S. I will post some pics of my rides when I have a chance to take some.

I'm not sure what might be wrong with your top pump. Does your top look newer? Or do you think it is the original?

If it is the original it has likely shrunk a couple of inches, which is why it is so hard to latch. You can't really do anything about that other than replace it.

I think there is a PDF service manual supplement for convertibles that has been posted on this site before. I should have a copy of it on my home computer. I can't remember how long or detailed it is though.

Also, there was an Oldsmobile dealership training course for the convertibles. It was a VHS tape with a book that supplemented it. I bought one off of ebay a couple years ago. The main focus of that course is customers complaining about water leaks. So it focuses on the seals and how to replace the convertible top.

You're not suppose to sit on it like a carnaval ride when you put it up! JK, there is another thread already here about this same issue...GOOD LUCK VERT Bud!

PS I have something from GM about the 1988 Indy 500 Cutlass Supreme Convertible top and HUD, should I post it?

Cover page. I can scan the whole pamplet if anyone is interested. I'm not sure about copy right laws, but I'm use to living on the edge... I even rip off those tags on my pillows and matresses! < criminal gangsta !

The top is the original. It is in need of a new top but I was hoping to wait a couple months for the snow to fly before replacing it. Buying the vert kinda drained my play fun. lol, but hey i finally got my vert!!! I was kind of thinking that was cause the top was old and has shrunk some.

I havent seen the pdf of the supplement manual, but I have been reading them on my Iphone so cant see what the attachments are in the forum. I was gonna Look through them again on the computer to see what I have missed but havent gotten to that today. Too nice of weather out so getting some much needed yard work done.

If you have a copy on your computer I would love to have it. Let me know if you can send it.

I Seen that there was the vhs training course, just havent been able to find one in the last couple weeks. Wondering if anyone has transfered it to dvd yet or if i can find a digital copy someone has made on the net somewhere? Anyone have any ideas?

There is a service manual for the top but it doesn't help with much other than how to operate the top and what to look for when it leaks. I had one with another 94 that I had and didn't find it useful at all. On both convertibles that I've had, it's always been the cylinders that made it slow and not going all the way to the pin cups. I too thought it was the pump and replaced it but had the same results. Just so happen a cylinder blew shortly thereafter and after I replace it, one side worked like a charm so I replaced the other one and it worked perfectly. I'm not saying that is your porblem but it was on my car. The second vert had a bad cylinder and after I replaced it, the one side worked better than the other so I'm going to replace the other side when money is available. Also, I only buy new one as used ones are normally not much better than what is on there. Just my experience and maybe other have different views.

Where do you buy your cylinders from? And the motor?

From a place I found on eBay, Convertible Specialists. They have a web url (www.topsdown.com) you can google them if you don't want to go through eBay. A new cylinder is $139.95 but in my opinion after buying two used ones that didn't last very long, is not that bad of a price.

Your the man! I am going to go to their website and check it out. I am tempted to re-do my cylinders and my motor just to have all new stuff and see if that helps.
