Is there a metal LIM gasket for Series I 3800?

When our beautiful '95 Regal started idling rough and dribbling coolant underneath the throttle body, I feared a head gasket issue. Research led me to believe we probably had a LIM/UIM gasket or warped plenum issue.

After reading a bunch more, I decided to take it all apart and do it right. So, for the LIM gaskets, the GM aluminum units sounded to be the best way to go if you only want to dig into the project once...

When I told the parts guy at the dealer I had a '95 Regal Limited (3800 only as I understand) and wanted the aluminum gaskets, he gave me a set, collected my $70 and I went on my way.

Some weeks later, when I finaly got around to taking things apart, I found the gasket set the parts guy gave me wasn't even close (ports don't match, manifold to deck seals shorter, etc.).

I have searched every way I can think of online to try and confirm that aluminum gaskets are available for the Series I 3800 (L27), but it's not working out so well. Does anyone know the definitive answer as to whether an aluminum gasket set is available for the Series I 3800?

I work for Napa and just scoured the computer trying to find a metal set. You would think thart Felpro would have one in the system but i cannot find anything in the system for the metal gaskets for that engine. They start in 96+ only.

Thank you base93lumina.

There is a ton of information out there about upper and lower manifold / plenum issues with GM 3800 Series I and II engines. Most folks seem to believe the aluminum LIM gaskets, made only by GM I believe, are the hot ticket and best fix for the problem. However, it does seem that these gaskets are only available for the Series II engines. Thank you very much for taking the time to check your resouces at NAPA. Perhaps this info will save some other folks some time on their projects...
