4t60-E shifter cable - adjustable?

After having my trans rebuilt, it seems the shifter is vague between D and neutral. My red indicator is somewhere between the two. I can't quite get into 1, which is ok, since I don't need to. I played around trying various things and after reading my Haynes manual I don't see anyway to correct this. The NSS is aligned with the drill bit technique. What am I missing? One other thing- even though my NSS is aligned, it will not allow a start in neutral. I have to go from N toward R to find the spot. I appreciate any help you can provide.

Where the cable clips into the bracket at the trans it is adjustable. There is a plastic clip that you pry up. Once pulled up, the cable can be moved back and forth to get the correct adjustment.

After you pry it up, how do you move it back and forth? All I have read is, not to remove a clip. It sound as though you place the cable back closer or further away. Is that the "adjustment"? Sharp 3.4 you have there.

No, it hasn't moved. The trans guy said he would leave the NSS on the trans and just pop off the cable. I had it dialed in and didn't want it disturbed. He may not have done anything intentionally since dropping the trans out the bottom was major. I had to get a 4 wheel alignment afterward.

You'll notice the cable is spring loaded at the trans bracket. The plastic clip is on the NSS side of the cable bracket. The clip is about a half inch wide and seated into the cable. A small flat blade screwdriver is enough to pry the clip up. The clip will move up about a quarter of an inch or so. Once you've moved the clip, you can grab the cable housing and move it back and forth to adjust where it needs to be. once you have it set where you need it, push the clip back down with your hand to lock it into place.

Why are you screwing with this? Take it back to the rebuilder, and tell him to complete the job you paid him for.

This is his problem, not yours.

Something got changed, even if it was just slightly. I'd take it back to the shop too! Unless you feel like you're not capable with the adjustment. Keep this in mind, they might VOID any warrantee if you mess with anything the shop touched! Check it out with them before trying anything on your own.

Case Closed? The Suite Case? The Case of beer? Is this one of those shows where I have to wait for next season to see what happened?

I was unable to adjust the cable. I pulled a shifter from a jy and it works much better. I think my original was just worn out and sloppy. The jy one had 112,000 on it. It is crisp. Also, i was having a problem not going into od. NSS solved that again.

My wifes grandfather is having the same problem with his cutlass supreme after he had a new trans put in. its gotten to where the shifter markers are so far off you can't tell what gear its in and the NSS won't let the car start half the time. I'm also wanting to take the 3.1 out of my wifes cavalier and put the 3800 sc in it. Any helpful tricks or hints?
