ReBlown47 Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 So basically i have replace rotors, tie-rods, struts, springs had several alignments and balances checked for bent rims and still have the same front end vibration which is slightly noticeable at 40mph and gets gradually worse the faster you go. So whats next to check? axles, anything else? Quote
skitchin Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 Hubs would be my first bet. Also a really stupid one - but if you have directional tires, make sure they're pointing the right way... How'd your alignment(s) go? Everything in spec or? Car can still fall into spec even with old cruddy loose parts. Quote
95 vert Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 Does it matter whether you're on or off the throttle? If it's there on the throttle but not off the throttle, then I'd be looking at the axles. Quote
ReBlown47 Posted May 12, 2012 Author Report Posted May 12, 2012 (edited) i can be lightly on the throttle on the highway and front end is just like shaking/vibrating but as soon get off to exit and slow down it starts to go away shop said everything is straight on the aligments most people on the forums are saying the axles, then maybe ball joints anything else? jman093 Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 Probably a bad tire. Just because it's balanced doesn't mean it's uniform. Quote
ReBlown47 Posted May 13, 2012 Author Report Posted May 13, 2012 i replace all my tires about year ago thats when i noticed the vibrations after install, maybe my old tires where so worn that it made the ride smooth Quote

WhatTheFehl Posted May 14, 2012 Report Posted May 14, 2012 i replace all my tires about year ago thats when i noticed the vibrations after install, maybe my old tires where so worn that it made the ride smooth Or you have an out of round tire. I would have taken it back to the shop. Tire manufacturers offer no-cost replacement for "ride disturbance" issues. Of course, its been so long and there have been so many miles put on them that any manufacturers warranty against workmanship and defects is now null and void. However that doesn't mean the shop won't try to help you out, just at this point you can't get diddly from the manufacturer unless they file a claim for an exclusion from the normal policy. Quote
jman093 Posted May 14, 2012 Report Posted May 14, 2012 i replace all my tires about year ago thats when i noticed the vibrations after install, maybe my old tires where so worn that it made the ride smooth The logic is kind of wrong. A brand new tire should always be smoother than a worn out one, but it still stands that one of the tires is probably bad. Does the steering wheel shimmy when the vibration is occuring? If so one of the front tires is bad. Quote
ReBlown47 Posted May 14, 2012 Author Report Posted May 14, 2012 well i swapped the rear tires wit the front ones and the vibration was still coming from front i did go back to firestone after the install told them about the vibration and they balanced them and rechecked the aligment said they couldnt find anything wrong. Suggested it was my struts since my originals where still on the car Quote
jman093 Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 (edited) well i swapped the rear tires wit the front ones and the vibration was still coming from front i did go back to firestone after the install told them about the vibration and they balanced them and rechecked the aligment said they couldnt find anything wrong. We get customers they lie to all the time about vibrations. The customer comes in to us wanting whatever suspension component replaced that Firestone suggested was bad and we find a bad tire. We send some very angry customers back their way. The best one I've had was one customer who had her tires she bought balanced a few times at Firestone and they finally told her she had a vibration because the tires were "spinning on the rim" and this was normal. LOL, I just hate it when that happens! You hit the brakes and the tire just keep spinning on the rims! . They also tried to sell her rear shocks. They told here they were leaking and part of her vibration. The struts were fine. I showed them to her. I road force checked the tires (checks them for round-ness and uniform stiffness all the way around) and one of them was bad. She took pictures of the dry shocks, called her husband, and went back to Firestone pretty darn angry. Shocks/struts won't cause a vibration anyway. Ride quality may be poor, but it won't cause vibration. All it does is dampen spring oscillations. Edited May 23, 2012 by jman093 Quote
ReBlown47 Posted May 26, 2012 Author Report Posted May 26, 2012 well i went to tireplus as well to have it road forced and they basically said the same thing as firestone. i think both of them where just tryin to get to me to buy struts from them since its a $1200+ in their pockets. Although my struts werent complete bad like failing the bounce test you could hear the struts continuously expelling air over any bump. I guess that what you call "shot struts". Not sure what the life of coil springs are but mine where frayed and i think causing the car to sag. After replacing the car with kyb parts all around and sprint lowering springs the car is real stiff now. No more air noise coming from the struts when doing a bounce test and the car doesnt rock anymore when sitting at a left light when cars pass on the right. Now i'm getting the cv axles replace hopefully that will solve two problems. The front end vibration and the abs clicking when doing normal braking. Supposedly cracked or cracking reluctor rings will cause the abs to activate but wont set off the abs light. Quote
rich_e777 Posted May 26, 2012 Report Posted May 26, 2012 Have you checked your subframe bushings? Seeing as you`re saying its in the front end and the tire guys cant find anything might be a good thing to check out. Quote
Greazzer Posted May 28, 2012 Report Posted May 28, 2012 Hello, My car is a 2001 Intrigue and after getting new tires and front alignment from Firestone, my car had front end vibrations at 55-60 and it seemed to go away at 70 mph. It seemed to have it less in the mornings. I just replaced the rotors, calipers, brake pads, and wheel hub assemblies this weekend. I would say 95% of my front end vibration is now done. I still think something is up with my tires. Instead of hi-jacking your thread, I will post my results on the front end parts I plan on replacing next weekend, e.g., lower control arm asemblies, stab link, et cet. This was a super easy job. Less than 3 hours for every little bit. I spent the same amount of time waiting at the Firestone place to get my tires re-balanced. Quote
W30post Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 Tires is my guess. I'm replacing 4 new ones with 4 more new ones this week. Quote
