282, what vehicles did it come in?

I'm assuming the cavalier 3.1 5 speed transmissions won't work in w body. Found one this week.

it's a 282..... while you could adapt it to work, it's going to be a lot more work than a native W-body 282.

There is a regeatta in the yard, i think someone used the oil filter adaptor from one of these to fit a manual swap on 3800?

i believe that's the one Kuntzie used for his 2G GP... may want to confirm that though.

88-90 = 282

91-94 = 284

last year of the 284 was 1993

I found 282 trans with everything (clutch system, mounts, brackets, pedals, cables, shifters) $500. Now, trying to figure out to run it on the 3.4 DOHC or L26. ?

Posted

What you mean how to run it on there? get a clutch, flywheel and bolt everything right up. Then tune for it in the computer. Probably need a custom intermediate shaft bracket though.

i have two cars, one that is DOHC and one that i'm doing L26 swap. Which engine would you put the 282 with?

Posted

L26 need to worry about oil filter adapter and intermediate shaft bracket. 3.4 need to do intermediate shaft bracket. I vote 3.4.

I found the 282 with all parts for the swap. I pick it up on this weekend. I also found a Reatta in the yard a couple hours away. I'll pick up the oil filter adaptor also. post-5429-143689104578_thumb.jpg

I picked up the transmission today. Long drive up to Racine and back. But i think i have all the parts for the trans mission.

Posted

Oh man, Quad Cities to Racine and back IS a long drive!

Congrats on getting all the parts you need.

Not too bad of a drive. but worth it to get the stuff. I had a previous connection to someone here that had what I needed previously. Lesson to self, when sending pay pal, i now email to confirm they got it.

Bump? I was reading here about how the v6 cavalier and V6 wbody 282 were different, and would take more to adapt this. How much work would it be? What would it take?

I was also told the 2000 cavalier 4 cylinder cars had same bolt pattern as our v6 engines and could be used by Milzy. Any word on this??

Posted

sounds like you're referring to the F23..... i don't know if i would trust that in a W, especially with a torquey engine.

not a very strong trans then i take it?

Also, there are a couple 92 282 cavaliers here with 3.1, thinking this is a stronger trans, wondering how much work it take to use this trans versus 89 282 trans?

well, it was used on a 2.2 cavalier..... it wasn't in any way required to be built to any significant specification, a vehicle that weighs 1000lbs more and doubles the torque output? i could see it tearing it up in no time.

however..... GM could have had it overbuilt(i want to say it is a getrag), i really wouldn't know.

That could be fun engine swap, 3800 in cavalier with 282 factory

Anyone besides GtpKo have that pdf factory manual on the 282 they could send to me? Shoot me a PM if you have it please!
