93CutlassSupreme Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 (edited) Does anyone have/know about any aftermarket source/part number for complete FRONT strut assembly's (like a Quick Strut). I am not interested in dealer parts. Thank you. Edited May 8, 2012 by 93CutlassSupreme Quote
White93z34 Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 I don't think something like that exists since the early strut assemblies are a strut/knuckle combination. However the strut cartridge inserts are so incredibly easy to change. Quote
93CutlassSupreme Posted May 8, 2012 Author Report Posted May 8, 2012 Right, but if the whole thing is bent changing the cartridge is a waste of time. Quote
White93z34 Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 If the whole thing is bent, the knuckle/strut is probably the least of your worries I'd just get one from a local junkyard, they should still be a dime a dozen. Quote
AL Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Junkyard is definitely the best bet... I have never seen a first gen quick strut available Quote
LuminaPower92 Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 When a jackass ran a redlight and hit the drivers side of my euro he bent the strut assembly as well as effed up the hub. Went to the yard and grabbed the whole assembly for 50 bucks tops. Even had a good strut. Quote
93CutlassSupreme Posted May 8, 2012 Author Report Posted May 8, 2012 I replaced the whole thing knuckle and all with a junkyard piece last year due to severe camber issues due to a collision I was involved in. This unit is already bad and I am having camber issues again. I would rather not do this again because of a worn out junkyard piece. Quote
rich17 Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 Sorry but there is no aftermarket strut/knuckle assemblies. And to find an unused OEM peice would be like finding a diamond in a pig pen. Just get a decent looking one from a JY. or have a southern JY ship you one. Quote

Night Fury Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 If the car is making them go bad, you have other issues... Quote
93CutlassSupreme Posted May 9, 2012 Author Report Posted May 9, 2012 If the car is making them go bad, you have other issues... I know I do. I have a bent subframe that pulls my right front wheel toward the rear of the car. I also have a bad strut mount, severe negative caster, and now negative camber. Quote
Night Fury Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 When you say mount, do you mean the strut mount or actually the body itself? Cause the subframe can be replaced fairly easily. I wanna say you can even use an aluminum one from a 3g Quote

I wanna say you can even use an aluminum one from a 3g I was referring to the strut mount, but the engine mounts are bad as well. I know the subframe can be replaced. Problem is, I don't give a shit about this car as long as it gets me to work and home which it has done for ten years now. An automatic trans, 3.1L Cutlass Supreme sedan is hardly worth my time swapping out a subframe while working six days a week and having to deal with my wife's unhappyness about sharing her car for a week. White93z34 Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 At the risk of sounding like an ass... Those things just don't go bad without taking a pretty significant hit, they are rather heavy duty pieces as its the entire knuckle and strut in one. if its the mount its one thing, bad insert.. if bad enough I could see causing the issue but I can't possibly see how the knuckle could get damaged in a non-accident scenario. If your alignment it out I would start by replacing the known bent pieces first, yeah I know swapping a subframe sucks, but it can be done in a day or 2 at most in a driveway with an engine brace. You don't sound like an ass. When most of the members here turned on me like a snake what, 5 years or so back, you have always been nice to me. The car was in a 8-car collision two years ago. The passenger side front wheel was pushed back toward the rear of the car about an inch. I obviously had major caster and camber issues. I replaced the knuckle/strut assembly with junkyard places, and a new hub and balljoint and had the car aligned. The wheel did not locate to the proper place so the subframe or control arm is obviously bent. I didn't care because the car drove straight down the road. Two years later I now have a steering wheel that is not centered, and camber and caster issues with this wheel. Obviously a good strut assembly is enough to get the car to drive properly to my standards. The point of my thread is where can I get a new knuckle/strut assembly so I don't have to keep replacing it with 20 year old junkyard pieces. Quote

Get another wbody thats similar and keep this one around as a parts car if you can Quote
AL Posted May 18, 2012 Report Posted May 18, 2012 2nd and 3rd gen subframe are not different, as in they are interchangeable... 1st gen subframes are completely different and not interchangeable Quote
Crazy K Posted May 19, 2012 Report Posted May 19, 2012 How about one from the south? I actually have a few very clean ones lying around here in Indy, and I could bring it to Toledo meet.... Quote
