7dark Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 Hello everyone Over the next week or so I plan on doing a bunch of work on my Lumina and I had a question about a problem I've noticed. I'm getting an oil leak(Least I think its oil) somewhere near my starter. I have no idea where its coming from. There is some oil around the valve cover, but it looks older. Not quite as wet. I wipe it up and take it for a 20min drive and its back. Could it be coming from the intake manifold? That is my big concern. If that is a possibility how would I check? Ty all for your time Quote

Not from the intake manifold per se. Most likely from the oil pump drive O-ring near the intake manifold; or from gaskets between head/intake/valve cover. My money's on the oil pump drive O ring. The oil drools downward, eventually dripping off the lower part of the engine. Often mimics a rear main seal leak. This is what the oil pump drive looks like on a '93 3.4 DOHC. Many folks add the paper gasket. Edited April 28, 2012 by Schurkey Quote
