I have a 93 Z34 with 178,000+ miles. New T-belt, LIMG, new radiator, AC system worked on and stayed r12 (super cold), plugs & wires, alternator, fuel pump. All these in two years plus. I figured not bad. Roughly $2K. I'm afraid that the heart and soul of this soon to be classic might give in, "The Engine". Any suggestions? I live in Phoenix, AZ and use my Z34 to work and back about 35 miles round trip 3-4 days/week. Is there any engine out there with less miles I can purchase? or any suggestion on a swap? I Love this car because of its power, space, and looks. Should I have the engine overhauled? if so, anyone knows a place here in Phoenix that will not mess it up or even charge me an arm and a leg?

Honestly, I'd like to keep it as long as I could and once the engine is squared away, I sending it to the body shop to get painted.

Thanks!:peace:

Whats wrong with the engine? Just afraid of the higher miles? Sounds like its good on preventive maint.

Runs and drives fine, then what are you worried about? Pick up a low mile, or even a new crate engine, and let it sit until the current one dies, then swap in the new.

Just driver her till she dies. Like said by slick, buy a crate motor, you can order it online and have it shipped to a Chevy dealer. It would be a lot cheap to get a new engine than having your old one overhauled for sure.

I've got 220K on my daily driver LQ1, no indicationof any problems at all. As long as it's properly maintained, they seem just as durable as any other engine I've had. I would'nt worry.

if you're worried, keep an eye on ebay, cheap LQ1 crate engines pop up now and again.....

If you are worried about the miles and have concerns, i will drive to you from Northern AZ and swap you my 93 3.1 Sedan :D

To All,

Thanks for the suggestion. I found a crate engine, brand new from Dublin, CA. Who would have thought?

got 224,000 miles out of my lq1 it turned out to be a part of the timing chain damper that came loose. amazing.. all the talk about the timing belt and the dummy drive chain does me in.
