3pt1lumina Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 Going to do this tomorrow night but want a quick opinion from you guys here. Front starts growling about 15 mph and just gets louder and louder, it's loudest at about 45. If you turn the wheel left, the growling almost goes away, turn to the right and it does not. Which one do you think is bad? And is there any other way to tell? Can't lie, when I have done these on my other Luminas I had my buddy who was a GM tech throw them on in about 30 mins, and I bought him lunch. I don't have that option anymore so I need to do this myself! Also, any tricks/special tools to use would be appreciated Quote
AL Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 Its the left front wheel bearing... Youll need a 35mm to undo the axle bolt Quote
3pt1lumina Posted April 9, 2012 Author Report Posted April 9, 2012 Excellent thanks Al. If I get this running right and trust it enough I may be driving it next weekend to come see you. We'll see how things go. Quote
AL Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 Just in case you didnt see my other post... If it doesnt have a pass through, I wouldnt bring it... I had the exhaust poking through the pass through when I brought it home... Also, Rich may come down that weekend too so we will have a small mini meet Quote
3pt1lumina Posted April 10, 2012 Author Report Posted April 10, 2012 Sweet. Well I put the left side hub on tonight and it solved 50% of the noise, but it's still pretty loud and annoying. Nothing else with pass through seat is running well enough to bring except my new Malibu, and I dont wanna put those parts in a new car (that I own) so my dad rented a Ford Escape. That should do it. alec_b Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 May need the other side. I've had bearings make more noise unloaded than loaded. Got burned on that with a rear bearing in my '91 regal. Quote
rich17 Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 I just did the right one and a month later the left went. I'd do the both of em. Also make sure you torque the axle nut to 180ftlbs. Quote

Also make sure you torque the axle nut to 180ftlbs. Good I did do 180 ft lbs, and the same thing happened on my 96 Lumina where I did the left and then the right one went a couple of months later. Nonetheless, I'm going to try and throw the other one on tonight. It wasn't as bad of a job as I was anticipating. The hardest part was getting the top bolts out. Quote
