jman093
Remove the cotter pin and go to town on the ball and stud end with a hammer. It'll come out of there. The replacement ball joints will have screws instead of rivets.
95regal
i find it's hard to hit the stud because there is not much room under the car.should the rivits be drilled from the top or bottom? btw jesse i also have a g-body (86 442)and a b-body (95 roadmaster estate) thanks for the help! White93z34
I think harbor freight sells a balljoint press of sorts that might be able to pop it out
alec_b
He needs a ball joint separator, which harbor freight also sells. Be aware though, most of the W's I've done have been REALLY stuck in the control arm. I actually broke my first ball joint separator on one. A pickle fork may be better. tornado_735
You're going to need a pickle fork. I've changed a few ball joints on W's, and Alec isn't exaggerating.
White92Cutlass
Autozone loans ball joint separators
95regal
IT's DONE! i just finished the balljoint replacement, and just like you guy's said it was rough.i had to rent a balljoint press use a pickle fork, chisels and a few other tools.i did both sides and it rides like a new car, i thought the banging over bumps was the motor mounts and never thought it was the ball joint. THANKS for all the help!!!!!
Schurkey
Now you know the value of inspecting the steering/suspension/brakes/tires periodically.
