AWeb80
In the Toledo discussion thread READ HERE I threw out the idea of my bringing my 3400 top swap parts (I have U/L intake and TB) and having this done at the meet with every ones help. Here is what I know I'll need off the top of my head....it seems like years since I've touched my GP....o yeah it has been....so I'm just brainstorming here. Feel free to throw out any ideas as well. HAVE *U/L intake *TB *Oil *Coolant *Valve cover gasket *EGR adapter Need to get *Upper and lower gaskets *TB gasket *injector o-rings??? *alternator braket???? I need clarification on this one if I need it or not *Need to grind the Lower intake to clear the rocker(s)...? I'll bring my dremel. *Larger injectors. From what I've heard, it seems like most people almost max out the stock 3100 injectors....and based on my last dyno with my exhaust mods vs my baseline stock run, it leaned out a fair bit....a tick above 13-1 where I was right on 12-1 stock. I'd feel better going larger injectors. What ones should I get. Might as well since we'll be in that area. Anyone have any laying around to sell? Where can this be done? I really don't want to burden Al or Slick. But I bet this could be whipped out pretty quick w/ 2-3 people working on it. I can bring my thin pile of tools to help but having extra would help. I can't wait to see how this engine will respond to the increased flow now that I have exhaust to back it up. Then the final step will be a OBDII swap and tune. AL
My only worry Adam is that something minor go wrong while your 800 miles from home... With that said, I will still gladly help... When were you planning on doing this? I am thinking Saturday during the day we will be having a cookout at a park or something and I am not too sure that Larry will want this to happen in the garage, I can ask him though
MonteCarloDude
You will need an alternator braket, i ran without one for a few days, but i would just get one off of an LA1/LG8 if you can. I would get new o-rings as well, cheap and it can't hurt IMO. Good luck bud, and i can't wait to see a WOT run after shes done!
19Cutlass94
Unless you wanna change your injector o-rings, you dont need to. If I remember correctly, you cant tune your car, so youll just use the 3100 injectors with the 55psi FPR and youll be fine. You dont need to grind the 3400 LIM for the rockers. and the alternator bracket you re-use. Worry about larger injectors and tune later on when you do your OBDII swap. Putting them in now will only make it run worse and without the ability to tune ATM, youll be screwed.
RobertISaar
Adam(and everyone else who has/will reference it), i don't have 100% capability with it yet, but i can program the 93-95 3100 PCMs. go with whatever injectors you want so long as you can get ahold of decent transfer tables. also: not sure what everyone else does about it, but the heater core return tube changed between the small and large port engines. http://wot-tech.com/shop/articles/94-99-3100-large-port-swap/cat_73.html looks like you'll either need the newer tube pressed in and use that or tap the location for the older tube. GP1138
On my intakes, the fittings just screwed out. Mine was a later '95 though..

I could swear I've heard from day one that you have to grind the lower intake for the 94 stamped rockers so it clears........
19Cutlass94
Maybe you do, I forgot you had the stamped rockers.

Crazy K
check the parts number thread for injectors O-rings. brown silicone rubber ones! get the permadry plus gasket kit. some 3400 lower intakes are pre-ground, but the best flowing ones are not... grinding will be needed. I'd help if i can Use THREADLOCK on all the bolts you install, especially the lower intake ones. If i were doing this swap, I would use ford yellow tops would be ideal for an upgrade injector, but ones from an earlier 3400 would be great too. the alternator "bracket" is an auxiliary bracket, good to have but not absolutely needed. you will have possible issues with the coolant line. When i did my swap I used the pop in newer line type and sliced the hoses together. if you choose to use the newer style pop in line, you should try to get one from a 3100 in a second gen GP, as I think that was the correct style(maybe?). if you choose to tap, buy a new coolant line fitting, part number in the parts number thread. AWeb80
Ken, you know what you are looking for as far as coolant line. Can you link/post that number here please? As for tapping it, is it a 1/2" pipe tap?
MonteCarloDude
As far as the bracket goes, i know i tried to use my old one, and it did not fit due to the difference in the small port and large port bolt pattern. I don't have good pics or else i would post them. As far as the rockers go, i always heard you had to grind the LIM as well. I could be wrong about that, i don't know a ton about stamped rockers in 660's.
RobertISaar
bracket? the one that attaches to the back of the alt, then attaches to the lip on the UIM on the backside? i've had that off since ~2005 in the MC, still kicking.
MonteCarloDude
bracket? the one that attaches to the back of the alt, then attaches to the lip on the UIM on the backside? Yes sir, thats the one.
RobertISaar
yeah, it can be left out safely. or at least i have for the past 50,000 miles.
AWeb80
I think I've heard of others not using that bracket..... Ken, if you have any decent mini-starters, bring one. I may throw it on for good measure. Mine seems to be getting tired....just seems to turn over slower than it used to.
