Ramblin Garage
Hey guys, I know this topic has been brought up over and over again but I'm looking to put headers on my Monte, I have come across these that claim to fit the 3400 Monte Carlo. Has anyone used these? I found this thread: http://60degreev6.com/forum/showthread.php/38261-Pacesetter-Headers-Ready-for-the-3400?highlight=pacesetter I also found them on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PaceSetter-Headers-70-1207-/150778142415?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item231b13decf&vxp=mtr#ht_2544wt_1165 They claim to fit and are a decent price, I'm just wondering if anyone has actually used them on a Monte Carlo yet. Any help would be great, thanks!
base93lumina
wonder if those will fit the early body styles...? hmmmmmm
Ramblin Garage
I believe the first generation of them do, they're more designed for Grand Ams
RobertISaar
ahh, paceshitters, as they are so known. the rear header isn't horrible, but the front header sucks. and they're meant for 2nd gen, i would expect fitment issues in a first gen / 1.5. otherwise, they would bolt to the engine. White93z34
God I hate Pacesetters. It looks to be the same design as their headers for a 3800, and that design is TRASH. Now say for some reason I would use them 3400 or 3800 you see that Y thing that connects the front and rear banks? Fit them onto the car minus the downpipe, and mark exactly where the Y thing needs to be for the crossover pipe to fit into it. remove and have the Y welded onto the rear header.then use a clamp on the other side. that should prevent them from falling off the car all the time. digitaloutsider
They're garbage. Fuck Pacesetters. I wouldn't buy them if they were $100.
AL
I havent had any issues with the Pacesetters yet, but I can tell they are starting to leak pretty bad and Ill need to have them welded...
Ramblin Garage
So their build quality is just cheap or what? Does anyone have examples of them going bad?
Andrew
everyone ive ever heard has said they suck. I would pass.
RobertISaar
WOT-Tech. i'm sure Ben/John would be able to make up some that were actually worth installing. not going to be cheap though, and from what i'm told, John has been quite busy recently, so it would be a while before they get out. Yeah, they won't offer them at a reasonable price like pacesetter though. Milzy is $1000 or more with shipping, Ben's would probably be like that also, and I actually prefer the design of the Milzy headers, so I'd probably go that way if I were to drop money like that, but when it comes to the thousand dollar range I'd rather save my money for my Camaro that I'm getting in the next 2 years... Does anyone have pictures or specific examples of what has gone bad with pacesetters?

RobertISaar
Yeah, they won't offer them at a reasonable price like pacesetter though. proper, well-designed equal length FWD headers aren't cheap. and currently, it looks like $750. not only are the milzy units more expensive, but they're not even equal length. White93z34
I have fond memories of laying under a regal on a gravel driveway in the winter fighting with them to make them quit falling apart. never again. that retarded 3 bolt flange ends up being load bearing where it should not be, blows the gasket out. the flex joint does not flex enough pushing energy up to the already poorly designed Y pipe thing, and eventually wears the clamps down enough that it falls apart there. if the Y was welded to the rear header it would be a lot better. I could be wrong tho, I didn't read a whole lot about them. If I'm on a budget do you guys think that going with just a 2.5" downpipe into a highflow cat would be best and then possibly use the 3500 exhaust manifolds to make some 'shorty headers'? RobertISaar
downpipe is a given(why upgrade the manifolds only to have the downpipe restrict their capabilities?), 3500 "header" manifolds are the best cheaper option that i know of. I heard they were different, also, it's easiest with two fronts right? I can't seem to find that thread
